Sri Ramanuja Acharya (1017-1137 C.E.) who lived thousand years ago was a great Hindu philosopher, scholar and one of the most respected Acharyas in the philosophy of Sri Vaishnavism. He was born in 1017 C.E. in a Tamil Brahmin family in Sriperumbudur village of Tamil Nadu. Lakshmana was his birth name and he was also referred as Ilaya Perumal which means ‘the radiant one’. He lived for 120 years and left this world in the year 1137 C.E. at Srirangam in Tamil Nadu.
Sri Ramanuja Jayanthi is celebrated on Thiruvathirai Nakshatra day of Chithirai month each year and the Jayanthi day is decided based on Tamil Solar Calendar.
