In the morning, the Poojakan first awakens the deity, opens the door, lights the lamps, and performs Abhishekam, Malar Nivedyam, Usha Nivedyam, morning Pooja, Pantheeradi Pooja (when the shadow lengthens to 12 steps), Noon Pooja, Sreebali along with any of the Poojas, Pradosha Pooja (evening Pooja, if normally practiced in that temple), Athaazha (night meals) Pooja, Athaazha Sreebali and Thruppuka. Poojakal / Poojas:

Pooja is the core of worshiping God, in a Thaanthric sense. It’s purpose, in essence, is to propitiate the eternal and boundless God in any of it’s manifestations (Siva, Vishnu, Durga etc.) by bringing or invoking one of the desired forms to the Poojakan’s (Poojaari’s) presence, and giving a general royal reception through various oblations and offerings (clothes, decorations, feast etc.), accompanied by chanting of hymns and Manthrams. It is an aspect of Karma Yogam.

Homangal / Homa:

These are very powerful vedic procedure or ritual and mantra chanting is one of its essential components. The homam is designed to invoke and implore at least one deity to be helpful in restoring health and the environmental balance. In reality, it is the only way to cleanse the body, mind and atman together to ignite soul power. Homams are part of actions to remove your negative karma and co-create your future positive Karma. The priest required particulars like Name, Gothra, star, rasi details for personalising the effect.

Naivedyam are the offerings made to God during the Pooja, chanting “Nivedyam samarppayami…”, It is a symbol of our self surrender before God. Nivedyams could be the grains,sweets, milk,curd,ghee,honey,fruits etc.

Paayasam:

Rice is believed to be the primary offering to God. It is offered in the form of Paayasams. hand pounded short grain rice,called as Unakkalari,(considered to be the most aristocratic of rice varieties!)is used for preparing temple offerings.

Namaskaram:

It is believed that the divine chaitanya flows from the deity towards us in a serpentine fashion. Hence offer the namaskaram at about 30 degrees angle and not facing the sanctum sanctorum. It is better to do the namaskaram facing the north.

Abhishekam:

Abhishekam, is conducted by priests, by pouring libations on the image of the deity being worshipped, amidst the chanting of mantras. Usually, offerings such as milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, Panchaamrutam, Sesame oil, rosewater, sandalwood paste may be poured among other offerings depending on the type of abhishekam being performed. This ritual is routinely performed in most Hindu and Jain temples.
