Vadakkumpuram Vishnumaya Temple History
Once upon a time, God Shiva was on a divine hunt in a forest when he came across a beautiful tribal girl named Koolivaka. At first sight, God Shiva was captivated by her wild beauty and expressed his desire to have a child with her.
However, Koolivaka was actually the cursed servant, Manaswiny, who had been cursed by Parvati Devi in a previous life. The curse transformed her into an outcast in her current life. But as the anger subsided, Parvati Devi blessed Manaswiny to have the opportunity to breastfeed Lord Shiva’s child.
Parvati Devi revealed that it was destined for her to meet Lord Shiva and become Koolivaka, the object of his affection. She also told Koolivaka that the child born from their union would be the one to defeat the powerful demon, Jalandhara.
As foretold, a child with divine power was born from their holy union. Lord Shiva and Parvati appeared before Koolivaka and entrusted her with raising the child. After some years, the child grew up and learned the truth about his real parents.
Filled with a longing to meet his true father, the child, known as Sivanandana, approached Lord Shiva’s abode riding a cute buffalo while playing his favorite musical instrument, the Eezhara. However, he was not allowed entry into the abode. To gain entry, Sivanandana transformed himself into Lord Vishnu, earning the name ‘Vishnumaya.’
Thus, the tale of Lord Vishnumaya, the divine child of Lord Shiva and Parvati, and his journey unfolds through twists of fate and divine blessings.
