About Vaisakhi / Baisakhi / Vasakhi Festival:
Vaisakhi is a very popular ancient harvest festival of Punjab, celebrated by all Punjabi’s, irrespective of their religion. Vaisakhi is a highly significant day for Punjabis, especially the Sikhs, who also celebrate it as Sikh New Year day, according to Hindu Solar calendar.
The Sikh community celebrate Vaisakhi is as a harvest festival as well as religious festival. They observe Vaisakhi as the day of formation of the Khalsa, meaning “the pure one”.
Khalsa was established by Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth and last Sikh Guru, on Vaisakhi day, in 1699. He declared that all human beings are equal. He abolished the difference between higher and lower caste communities. Later the Guru tradition in Sikhism came to an end when Guru Granth Sahib was declared as their eternal guide and Holy Book of Sikhism.
Vaisakhi can also be spelled as Visakhi, Vaishakhi and Baisakhi.
