Shardiya Navratri Ghatasthapana:
Ghatasthapana is a very important ritual performed during Navratri, which marks the beginning of the nine days celebrations. Hindu scriptures have well defined rules and guidelines to perform Ghatasthapana ritual during a specific time in the beginning of Navratri. Ghatasthapana involves invocation of Goddess Shakti, which should be done at the right time. Our scriptures have given warning that if this ritual is performed at wrong time, it might bring wrath of the Goddess Shakti. Amavasya and night time should be avoided for performing Ghatasthapana.
The first one third of the day while Pratipada is prevailing is the most auspicious time to do Ghatasthapana. However, if by any reasons this time is not available then it can be done during Abhijit Muhurta. Nakshatra Chitra and Vaidhriti Yoga should be avoided during Ghatasthapana, though they are not prohibited. It is most important to do Ghatasthapana before Hindu midday while Pratipada is prevailing.
Templesinindiainfo.com team carefully considers all conditions and exceptions to determine the best time to perform Ghatasthapana and we do it for more than 20,000 cities across the world. We also generate daily Panchangam data for over 20,000 cities throughout the world. We don’t use the same Muhurta for different cities, but we calculate the Muhurta for different cities independently by considering all local factors like sunrise, sunset, midday, ascendant and last but not the least, DST, if applicable.
You may notice several sources which advise to consider Choghadiya Muhurta to do Ghatasthapana but we know that our scriptures don’t accept to take Choghadiya Muhurta. Templesinindiainfo.com team has done intensive research of all authentic sources and we follow only those rules which are recognized by Vedic scriptures. However, in case you want to use Choghadiya Muhurta you can take it but we don’t recommend it to perform Ghatasthapana.
We also consider Lagna and look for the possibility of including Dvi-Svabhava Lagna for calculating Muhurta. It is noticed that during Shardiya Navratri, Dvi-Svabhava Lagna Kanya prevails during sunrise, and we can consider it for Ghatasthapana Muhurta, if found suitable.
Afternoon, night time and any time beyond sixteen Ghatis after sunrise are prohibited for Ghatasthapana.
Kalash Sthapana is another name for Ghatasthapana. You might also refer the complete Shardiya Navratri Calendar as well as Durga Puja Calendar.
