About Narali Purnima:
Shravana Purnima is commonly known as Nariyal Purnima in some parts of Maharashtra, especially in the coastal Maharashtra and Konkan region.
On Nariyal Purnima day, devotees worship God Varun, the God of sea and offer Nariyal (coconut) to him. It is believed that worshipping the God of Sea on the auspicious day of Shravana Purnima please the God and he will protect fisher-men from all kinds of unfortunate incidents.
Brahmins of Maharashtra perform Shravani Upakarma rituals on this day. They observe Phalahar fasting on this day and eat only Nariyal during the fast. Hence, in coastal Maharashtra and Konkan region, the day of Shravana Purnima is known as Nariyal Purnima.
On the day of Nariyal Purnima, people plant tree to show their respect and gratitude towards the nature. Nariyal Purnima is also pronounced as Narali Purnima and spelled as Nariyali Purnima.
