2023 Salakatla and Navaratri Brahmotsavam Tirumala

The Tirumala Brahmotsavam, a spectacular festival held at the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple in Andhra Pradesh, India, is a time of grandeur, devotion, and spiritual fervour. It is celebrated enthusiastically over nine days during the Hindu month of Purattasi, typically between September and October. In 2023, due to the occurrence of Adhika Maasa, there will be two Brahmotsavams – the Salakatla Brahmotsavam and the Navaratri Brahmotsavam – making it an even more special occasion.

2023 Salakatla Brahmotsavam Tirumala

Salakatla Brahmotsavam

The Salakatla Brahmotsavam, often called the Annual Brahmotsavam, is scheduled from September 18th to September 26th in 2023. This is when the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) comes alive, with devotees from far and wide converging to witness and partake in the festivities.

The celebration starts with the Ankurarpanam fete on September 17th, marking the anticipation and excitement for the grand event. On September 12th, the Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam, a ceremonial cleaning of the temple, is conducted in preparation for the festivities.

During the Brahmotsava Vahana Sevas, the temple resonates with devotion and splendour. These Sevas occur in the morning, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, and in the evening, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Devotees gather in large numbers to catch a glimpse of the deities as they are taken out in procession on exquisitely decorated Vahanas (chariots). It is a sight to behold and a moment of profound spirituality.

The celebration continues after the Salakatla Brahmotsavam. Following this, the Navaratri Brahmotsavam is scheduled to commence on October 15, 2023, and continue until October 23, 2023. This extended period of celebration allows devotees to bask in the divine aura of Lord Venkateswara for an even longer duration.

Highlights of TTD Brahmotsavam

One of the standout moments in the TTD Brahmotsavam is the Dwajarohanam ceremony. At this event, a flag is hoisted on the temple’s main flagpole, symbolizing the beginning of the festival. Another noteworthy occasion is the Rathotsavam, where the deity is paraded around the temple on a beautifully adorned chariot. Additionally, cultural programs and devotional music performances enhance the spiritual atmosphere during the festival.
