Sri Karthyayani Devi Temple is located in Cherthala in the Alappuzha district in the state of Kerala. Sri Karthyayani Devi is an incarnation of Goddess Shakti. This temple is a historical and powerful temple in Kerala State. It is among 108 Devi temples in Kerala.

The idol of Sri Karthyayani Devi has only the head visible, we can see the holes from which hairs have been pulled out. So after abhisheka, the head part of the idol is mapped using a cloth. Flowers offered to goddesses are also covered with a cloth.

There are separate shrines for Lord Shiva, Vishnu, Ganesha and Lord Dharma Sastha on the premises. Here the goddess is famous as Mangalya Dayini she removes obstacles for the marriage of young girls. At this temple, Aarattu is held twice every day during the annual festival.

Cherthala Karthyayani Devi Temple Pooram Festival:

Cherthala Pooram starts virtually two days prior to the Kodiyettam or flag hoisting. On these two days, Thalappoli
(plates decorated with oil lamps and flowers) is carried by women and girls and offered to the Goddess. The Aarattu
ritual is held twice every day during the festival. The ritual is performed in seven different ponds unlike in other temples. The temple is beautifully decorated and special ritualistic prayers are held. Hundreds of devotees throng the temple premises during the festival days.
