Karippal Nagam Temple Timings, History, Festival

Karippal Nagam is a temple dedicated to the serpent god. It is located at Karippal near Perumbadavu in Kannur District. The temple is maintained by the local committee under the supervision of Karippal family. To reach Karippal, one has to travel 20 km. from Pilathara (Pilathara near to Payyanur on Payyanur-Kannur Road) by Perumbadavu Bus and from Perumbadavu one has to walk about one kilometer to reach the temple. The two Theyyam forms of the temple are Nagarajavu and Nagakanni.

Ayilyam festival is most important for this temple. Ayilyam is special for Nagas too. Festival falls on Ayilyam star of Dhanu month in Malayalam calendar. Sarpabali at 8.00 AM and Thottam for Nagarajavu at 12.00 Noon is conducted as an offering to the deity on those days. Devotees visit the temple in large numbers, during the festive seasons. Special bus services to the temple are available from Payyannur and Thaliparamba during this festival.
