NewDelhi Kalka Ji Temple or Kalkaji Mandir is situated on the outer skirts of the commercial complex of Nehru Place in New Delhi, Shri Kalkaji Mandir Temple is a famous temple dedicated to the Goddess Kalika Devi. A number of devotees visit this temple throughout the year on many religious occasions. The temple is then decorated with small red flags and it is often found that women devotees outnumber the men devotees. There are several folklores with tales of the Kalkaji temple, and one may find it difficult to distinguish legends from history.
The Kalkaji Temple is as old as 3,000 years; however, the oldest portion of it dates back to 1764-1771 A.D. when the Marathas were in power. But looking at the modern Kalkaji temple one cannot believe that it was an ancient temple, where even the Pandavas and Kauravas might have worshipped during the Mahabharata times.
The temple dedicated to Goddess Kali is situated on a hill, beyond the commercial hub of the capital city. The atmosphere creates a unique feeling and the devotees become excited by light, which remains during the whole night. The supremacy of Mother Kali is vague but powerful. Many devotees try to meditate there and a remarkable tantric aarti is held in the evening at about 7.00 pm. The temple is very close to the famous Bahai Temple, which is situated just opposite the side of a road.
Navratri and Shivaratri are festivals celebrated in a grand manner.
