Palani Murugan Golden Chariot was donated by Mr. V.V.C.R.Murugesa Mudaliar from Erode on 17/8/1947. The Chinnakumarar Idol (Palani Murugan), an elegant bronze form, sits atop a golden peacock which gives it a beautiful stature with its flared feathers. Now, this striking combination is kept atop the Thanga ratham or Golden Chariot and is carried around the prakaram on the days of Kirthigai and on six specific holidays. There will be no such Golden Chariot procession in Thaipoosam, Panguni Uthiram, ten days. during Dasara, Soora Samharam and Karthikai Deepam festival at Palani Murugan temple.
The illuminated golden car is absolutely charming. People gather only to witness the golden chariot and obtain Lord Murugan’s blessings. Asthana nadaswaram temple, Thiruppugazh Bajan group and all other people are usually part of the ceremonial Thanga Ther valam. The devotee has to pay a fee if he wants to pull the golden chariot around the prakaram.

The devotees usually carry out this process in order to accomplish a pledge or as a form of gratitude expressed to the lord for curing their diseases or bringing some form of success to their business or life. At the end of the procession, the contributor is honored with the parivattam. Of course, the procession comes to short stops in front of the Bali Peedams or altars for religious contributions which are in the Prakarams.

Prarthana Cradle is in Palani Murugan Hill Temple.
A Devotee from Hosur donated the Golden Prarthana cradle on 6/02/2011. The golden Cradle was Rs.1.6 crore. This was the second temple in Tamilnadu to have the “Golden Prarthana Cradle”.
