Boston Shree Swaminarayan Temple History:
Satsang in the region started in 1987 with the first visit of His Holiness 1008 Shree Tejendraprasadji Maharaj. In the three years since His Holiness’s visit, the devotees have decided that they want a magnificent temple to enrich their children with culture, spirituality and devotion. Many difficulties arose in the construction of the Shree Hari Divine Mansion, but with Lord Swaminarayan’s divine blessings, the construction came to an end. The entrance is a divine gift of Akshardham to the faithful of this region.
The idol ceremony in the temple was celebrated in the presence of thousands of people from everywhere and with great splendor. After the installation of the idols, His Holiness 1008 Shri Tejendraprasadji Maharaj told the Mayor of Lowell, MA, “We have not changed this facility, it was a place of worship for many and it is still a place of worship for many”.
In August 2006, the temple was reinstated at 1705 Middlesex Street. The new temple is located on a 3-acre site with over 200 car parks in and around the Indian community. There is a municipal park adjacent to the temple and the picturesque flowing nearby. The temple has halls for His Holiness Acharya Maharajshri, His Holiness Gadiwala and respected saints. It contains a state-of-the-art lighting and audio system as well as a gym, library, classrooms and a commercial-sized kitchen.
In addition, the main attraction is a huge banquet hall (called Shriji Banquet Hall) that can accommodate over 500 people on tables and chairs. This is used to conduct social, cultural, educational, humanitarian and youth camps organized by Shri Nar Naranan Dev Yuvak Mandal.
The old temple (which was opened) located on 403 Street was abandoned when the new temple was opened and this property was sold.
