Weehawken Shree Swaminarayan Temple Inauguration:
This is the first temple of Shri Swaminarayan Sampraday (I.S.S.O.) inaugurated in the United States. His Holiness 1008 Shri Tejendraprasadji Maharaj installed the idol of Lord Swaminarayan in this magnificent temple. The divine characteristics of Lord Swaminarayan in this temple personify Ghanshyam Maharaj of Rang-Mahol in the first Swaminarayan Temple in Ahmedabad, India.

Weehawken Shree Swaminarayan Temple History:
Satsang in the New Jersey area started in 1978 with the help of His Holiness 1008 Shri Tejendraprasadji Maharaj. At the inaugural visit of H.H.Acharya Maharajshri to USA, The two saints and devotees of India visited New York, Boston, Chicago, Nashville, Atlanta, Charlotte, Florida, California and several other cities for three month and a half to spread the message of the original Sampraday Swaminarayan as commissioned by Lord Swaminarayan. the support and blessed gifts of loving the devotees throughout the United States facilitated the establishment of the non-profit, international Swaminarayan Satsang Organization (ISO). H.H. Acharya Maharajshri traveled to the United States again in 1981 through many cities and established a small Hari Mandir in the basement of a benevolent devotee. Satsang continued in the Hari Mandir until 1986. The historic monument, the first church of Christian Science, was purchased in Weehawken, New Jersey, on the banks of the Hudson River, with breathtaking views of the skyscrapers from New York. The vision of the first temple of I.S.S.O had become reality.
On Saturday, May 24, 1987, H.H. Tejendraprasasji Maharajshri inaugurated the first Shri Swaminarayan Temple in the United States at Weehawken, New Jersey. Satsangis from the UK, Africa, India and several US cities. UU They participated in this divine celebration. The procession with divine idols began at Colonial Park on 60th Street, West New York, New Jersey, on Blvd East Road, overseeing the Hudson River shore. With extraordinary chariots and Mayor Weehawken, Mr. Robert Turner as Chief Guest and assembly-man Mr. Octovio Alfonso, in attendance, began the parade. A small shower of rain came from Lord Swaminarayan in the morning to signify happiness and joy in heaven. Women dressed in red saris and young men wore special Indian uniforms for cultural dances. Many difficulties have come in the construction of the first divine dwelling of Shri Hari, but with the divine blessings of Lord Swaminarayan, we begin the new beginning of The Original Swaminarayan Sampraday for the Narnarayan Dev and Laxminarayan Dev Gadis (Diocese). Shri Swaminarayan Temple in Weehawken, New Jersey is the national headquarters of I.S.S.O.
The idol ceremony in the temple was celebrated with great splendor in the presence of thousands of people from all over the United States, the United Kingdom, Africa and India.
After the installation of the idols, His Holiness 1008 Shri Tejendraprasadji Maharaj said: personally, he had made a great effort to build this first temple in the United States, And it will remain like our home, as Lord Swaminarayan says, Gadhada is my house and I am for Gadhada. Until today, the Swaminarayan temple, Weehawken, is the temple loved by all the satsangies of the two dioceses, Ahmedabad-Vadtal.
