Sree Alattiyur Hanumankavu History:
According to local myths, the “Perumthrikkovil idol” of deity Hanuman was consecrated 3000 years ago by Vasistha, one of the Saptarishis. Even though the main deity of the temple is Hindu God Ram, the temple is famous and known as “Hanuman temple”.
The temple of Sree Hanuman is adjacent to the main temple of Sree Ram. Sree Hanuman has his head tilted to left (to Ram’s Adobe) to hear his master’s words. Sree Ram is confiding in Hanuman the cue-word ( Abhignana Vaakyam ) that would enable him to gain the confidence of Sita.
As the situation in Ramayan, Lakshman is away from Ram and Hanuman so that he can’t be hearing the cue-word.
The numerous Gods bestowed their enormous power on Sree Hanuman. He is all set to accomplish his mission, which is seeking the whereabouts of Sita.
He seems to be assuring Sree Ram: “Your wish is my command”.
Here, he is the personification of divine strength, confidence, the concentration of purpose, Bhakti and above all humility. He is the symbol of supreme self-sacrifice.
There is a platform to commemorate Sree Hanuman’s mighty leap to Lanka over the sea. There is a long granite stone at one end of the platform and symbolize the sea. Devotees come running and leap over the long stone. By doing this, auspicious result is expected especially for the better health and life of children.
