Sree Chamravattam Ayyappa Temple Timings, History, Sevas

The Chamravattam Ayyappa temple is one of the ancient temples of Sastha, located on a small island on the Bharathapuzha river in Chamravattom. The actual year of the temple is unknown. It is said that Thousands of years ago, a saint named “sambanan” came to this place, saw the calm and beautiful island near the shore of Bharathapuzha. He thought it was the best place for his Thapass. At the end of his long pass, he had a bright light in front of him. He thought “Lord Vishnu” was going to appear before him, but Sri Vishnu didn’t appear and the light didn’t go. Then he thought it was the presence of Lord Shiva. The light has not disappeared. Then he thought of Lord Ganesha, Lord Subrahmanya, Goddess Durga also.

Finally, he recognized the presence of Lord Sastha with his wife Prabha and their son Sathyaka. Then the light of Sastha disappeared. He approached the Karanavar of Kuttisseri mana on the bank of Bharathappuhzha. Saint explained his rare experiences and asked him to build a temple on the island. The saint advised the Pooja procedures and left the place. The place where Saint Sambara saw Vettom was previously known as Sambaravettom, then it transformed into Chamravattom.
