Pariyanampatta Bhagavathy Temple History:

According to the legends, once an old Brahmin of Pariyanampatta Mana undertook a pilgrimage to Mookambika temple in Kollur with his servant, who was the head of Chalavara Parola Nair Tharwad near Cheruplassery. When the Brahmin got the blessings of the Goddess, he decided to return home to spend the rest of his days in piety. However, on reaching the bank of a small stream at Pariyanampatta, he felt tired and rested there for some time. While resting, he untied his bundle of personal belongings. To his astonishment, he saw an idol of Devi inside his bag. He realized the purpose of the appearance of the idol through his wisdom and decided to make a pratishta (installation) of the Devi there. He summoned people of 14 Desams in old Valluvanadu taluk and did the Pratishta of the thidambu under the vedic rituals of the main thantri of Ikkaattumanakkal under the control of Desam pramanies (Chiefs) of Kollam, Nallur and Pottekkad Mootha Panickers. Thus came into being the Pariyanampatta Bhagavathy temple.
