Sree Uttara Swamimalai Temple Timings, History

Uttara Swamimalai Temple or Malai Mandir is a famous Murugan temple situated in Ramakrishna Puram, New Delhi. Lord Murugan is worshipped as Lord Swaminatha mostly worshipped in South India and other Tamil speaking countries. Sree Uttara Swamimalai Temple is on a small hill and the temple is built of granite stones, the temple Architecture is in Chola and Pandya style.

It comprises Sri Swaminatha Swami, Sri Karpaga Vinayakar, Sri Sundareswarar, Devi Meenakshi, Navagraha Sannidhi, Sri Idumban Sannidhi, Sri Adi Sankara Hall and Silpa Kala Mandapam. Archana, Aarti and Abhisekham are the daily pujas performed.

Sree Uttara Swamimalai Temple Development:

  • On September 8, 1965, M. Bhakthavatsalam, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, lays the foundation stone for the temple, at a function held under the presidency of Sri Lal Bahadur Shastri, then Prime Minister of India.
  • On June 7, 1973, Lord Swaminatha’s main temple, the Sree Swaminatha Swami Temple, was consecrated and a Maha kumbhabhishekham was performed.
  • On June 13, 1990, Sree Karpaga Vinayakar, Sree Sundareswarar and Devi Meenakshi temples are consecrated and Maha Kumbhabhishekhams were performed. On the same day, A Jeeranoddharana Kumbhabhishekham is also performed for Lord Swaminatha’s temple.
  • On July 7, 1995, the Navagraha temple was consecrated, along with a small temple for Idumban Swami, and Kumbhabhishekham is performed.
  • On November 9, 1997, The Adi Sankara Hall was inaugurated.
  • On June 27, 2001, The third Punaruddharana, Ashtabandhana and Swarna-Rajatha Bandhana Mahakumbhabhishekham of the temples are performed by H.H. Kanchi Kamakoti Peethadhipati Sri Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal. H.H. Sri Vijayendra Saraswati Swamigal also participates in the yagna pooja on the night of June 25, 2001.
