Later, the Chola and Vijayanagara kings made several contributions to the temple. The temple’s architecture is an excellent blend of Chola, Pallava, and Vijayanagara styles. The temple has undergone several renovations and reconstructions over the centuries, the most recent being in the 16th century during the reign of the Vijayanagara Empire.

The temple’s significance lies in its association with Lord Venkateswara, who is considered the presiding deity of the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple. It is believed that Lord Venkateswara and his consort, Goddess Padmavathi, got married at this temple, hence the name Kalyana Venkateswara. The temple is also significant because of the various rituals and festivals celebrated here, including Brahmotsavam, Vaikuntha Ekadasi, and Rathasapthami.

Architecture and Design of Kalyana Venkateswara Temple:

Sri Kalyana Venkateswara Temple’s architecture and design are a visual treat for devotees and tourists alike. The entrance gate, known as the Mahadwara, is an excellent example of Vijayanagara architecture. The gopuram, or temple’s tower, is 36 feet tall and has intricate carvings depicting stories from Hindu mythology. The sanctum sanctorum, or garbha griha, houses the presiding deity, Lord Venkateswara, in his wedding attire, along with his consort, Goddess Padmavathi. During the festival, the deity is taken on a procession on a beautifully decorated chariot, and several rituals and poojas are performed.
  2. Vasanthotsavam: This is a spring festival that is celebrated in the month of Chaitra (March-April). During this festival, the temple is decorated with colorful flowers, and the deity is adorned with beautiful flower garlands.
  3. Pavitrotsavam: This is a 3-day festival that takes place in the month of Shravana (July-August). During this festival, a holy thread is tied around the temple and the deity, and several poojas and rituals are performed.
  4. Pushpayagam: This is a flower festival that is celebrated in the month of Bhadrapada (August-September). During this festival, the deity is offered a variety of flowers, and the temple is decorated with colorful flower arrangements.
  5. Teppotsavam: This is a 5-day festival that takes place in the month of Kartika (October-November). During this festival, the deity is taken on a procession on a beautifully decorated boat, and several poojas and rituals are performed.

These festivals attract a large number of devotees from all over the world who come to the temple to seek blessings and offer their prayers to Lord Venkateswara. The atmosphere during these festivals is electric, and it is a sight to behold.
