Skanda Sashti:
Lord Skanda is the son of God Shiva and Goddess Parvathi, is a popular Hindu deity especially among the Hindus of Tamil Nadu and South Andhra.
Lord Skhanda, also called as Subrahmaya or Murugan, Karthikeya or Shanmuga (Shatmukha – six faced god), is considered as the younger brother of Lord Ganesha in South India. But he is considered as the elder brother of Lord Ganesha in the North India.
Sashti thithis are very auspicious to perform Kaala Sarpa Dosha Pooja / Rahu Kethu Parihara pooja in any ancient temples where it is performed. Lord Subrahmanya is the Adhipathi (Lord) for Rahu, hence doing the parihara pooja is strongly suggested to pacify the malefic planet.
Sashti Tithi is dedicated to Lord Skanda (Subrahmanya), is worshipped by observing a fast on this day for good health, wealth and prosperity of the family.
