Hindu Temple Society of Augusta Balashala:
The Balshala program associated with the Augusta HTS began in the late 1970s to offer children exposure to the beliefs and practices of the Hindu religion. A program that includes Sanskrit hymns, bhajans and stories of sacred texts and epics such as Ramayana and Mahabharata are used to connect children to the spiritual and moral values of Hindu philosophy. Handicrafts, Hindi class and other program support activities help connect children with their cultural heritage.
Balshala is open to children (4 to 12 years) of HTS members. The program relies on volunteer parents to provide instructions and support all other operational tasks.
Classes and meetings are scheduled in the HTS facilities on Sundays designated from September, as published in the annual Balshala calendar. The end of year schedule and lunch are traditionally scheduled around Mother’s Day in early May. Volunteer-run summer camps in Balshala are usually offered on some weekends in June / July.
