Karur Pasupatheeswarar Temple History:

According to legend, Lord Brahma was proud to be the Creator of the world. Lord Shiva asked the divine cow Kamadenu through sage Narada to perform penance in the forest of trees of Vanji. According to the instructions, the divine cow, Kamadenu worshiped Shiva Linga hidden in an anthill. Kamadhenu used to execute Abhishekam with his milk. One day, while executing Abhishekam Kamadhenu, the hoof accidentally struck the Linga.

The Linga has started to bleed and a scar remains on the Shiva Linga. It can even be seen now. Kamadenu pleaded guilty before Lord Siva. Lord Shiva worshiped as Pasupathi Nathar. Impressed, Lord Siva entrusted the work of creation to the divine cow Kamadhenu. Kamadenu initiated the creation of world work and erased the pride of Brahma. Realizing his mistakes, Lord Brahma performed severe penance for Lord Siva on Satya loka. Happy Lord Siva reassigned the creation work to Brahmma and took Kamadhenu with him.
