Melukote Sri Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple Darshana Timings, History

The Yoganarasimha temple which is at the height of 1,777 mtr, from the mean sea level is a creation of the Hoysala times with a beautiful image of seated Yoganarasimha with Yogapatta. A panoramic view of the surrounding vast area can be had from here. This is believed to be one of the seven holy centres of Narasimha worship. A huge drum donated by Tipu Sultan and a bell donated by the Mysore Parakalamatha seen here.

Sri Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple History:

Melukote is one of the holy and sacred pilgrimages of South India in Karnataka.The holy city is located on the hillock called as Narayanagiri, Which is towards North of River Cauvery (about 35 KMs). Melukote is 3000 feet’s above Sea level capper).This place is also rich with Natural & Environmental beauty attracting hundred & thousand’s of pilgrim’s daily.

The main presiding deity Sri Cheluvanarayana Swamy was worshipped by lord Dattatreya in kritayuga, and acquired the name Vedadri. In Tretayga it was Known to Narayanadri followed by the name Yadavadri since the Deity was worshipped by Sri Krishna & Balarama. Again in Kaliyuga the Deity was worshiped by the great Srivaishnava Saint Sri Ramanujacharya well known as Yathiraja Sarvabhowma (king of Yathis) who renovated the temple after the deity and hence the city became famous by the name of Ramanujacharya as Yathishaila (mountain of yathi). Melukote is praised as Badarinath of South India.
