The goddess Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameshwari is the Kula devatha of the Arya Vysya community. Vasavi Matha sacrificed her life to avoid bloodshed and war. Her message to the world is Dharma, integrity, and Ahima. The most famous temple of this goddess is in Penugonda, in the western district of Godavari, Andhra Pradesh.
The goddess Parvathy had asked Narada Maharshi and Maya Brahma to build 18 large towns near the West Godavari. So that Arya Vaisyas can live comfortably. The Naradha Maharshi and Maya Brahma had built 18 large towns on the banks of the West Godavari River. Maya Brahma had the easy task of building 18 towns beautifully because she had already built many places for Devatas.
The 18 towns were seen shining in the morning sun. Streams adjacent to the towns flowed and Navarathnas remained in piles in the streets of the towns. There were forts with beautifully decorated entrances and gardens with colorful flowers. Peacocks, parrots and other birds were seen in the garden. Rajbhavan, conference rooms, swimming pools, flower gardens. Veda Patasala, the temples and Gurukulam of Bhaskaracharya were in this city.
After the completion of the construction of these towns, Kamadhenu had brought the Aryavaisyar from Kailasam and stopped near the Godavari River in the Ananthagiri Hills. Naradha Maharshi, Maya Brahma and Kubera worshiped Kamadhenu. Vaisyas came out of Kamadhenu’s right ear. They worshiped Sage Naradha, Maya Brahma, Kubera and Kamadenu. Sri Vishnu addressed the Arya Vaisyas and said that they had been brought to the earth with the instructions of Adhi Parasakthi.
Bhagavan Sri Maha Vishnu appeared before Aryauteyas and advised them to follow the Dharma, work hard, do business and protect the cows, you must live like other human beings, said God and he disappeared.

South India is home to many temples, including the Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari Temple located in Penugonda, a town in Godavari District (West), in Andhra Pradesh. The temple is a fascinating seven-story multi-colored tower (Gali Gopuram) with beautiful architecture. This Penugonda Kshetram is considered the “Kasi of Vysyas” and is a sacred place for Vysyas.
Kusuma Sresti or Setty was King Setty of Vysyas, also known as Pedda Setty (elder among Settys) whose territory was a vassal state of Vangi Desa (Kingdom of Vanga), headed by Vishnu Vardhana (Vimaladitya Maharaja). Its capital was the city of Penugonda for the 18 paraganas in the tenth and eleventh centuries. He and his wife Kusumamba were considered an ideal couple and led a peaceful family life. They worshiped Lord Shiva (Nageswara Swamy) as part of their daily tasks.
Although they have been married for many years, the couple had no peace of mind since there was no successor to the kingdom. Their many prayers and sacrifices did not bear fruit and were therefore afflicted. They approached their guru Kula (family teacher) Bhaskara Acharya, also a Komati who knew the shastras well and who, by virtue of his profession, was treated as a Komati Brahman. He advised them to play Puthra Kamesti Yaga, which Dasharatha had observed.
At the auspicious hour, the couple started yoga. The gods were pleased and sent prasadam through Yagneswara. They were told that they would get children after eating prasadam. With devotion, they ate prasadam and within few days signs of pregnancy were found with Kusumamba. She expressed unusual desires, indicating that she would give birth to children who would fight for the well-being of all.
