About Puri Baliharachandi Temple:

This is a temple dedicated to the goddess Harachandi 27 km southwest of Puri on the national road 203 which leads from Puri to Brahmagiri and Satapada. On this road, there is a place known as Kathuari Chowk, from where one have to take a left and after 5 km one will reach Palanka village. This temple is located at a distance of 1 kilometer from Palanka village. The temple is oriented to the east and the presiding deity is Asta-Bhuja (eight arms) Mahisamardini Durga, worshiped as Baliharachandi. Baliharachandi is also considered as the goddess of water and navigation, who protects the boatman and the fisherman from danger at sea. This temple is linked to the Sri Jagannath temple concerning a ritual on Mahanavami day in the month of Ashwina. Best time to visit Baliharachandi Temple is from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

This temple is linked to Puri Jagannath temple through a ritual which takes place on the day of Mahanavami in the month of Ashwina. A number of festivals associated with this temple, including Durga Puja, Navaratri, Chaitra Mangala Bara and Ramanavami.

In the Rahapaga, behind the temple, there is an idol of the goddess Kali, holding a snake, a skull and a severed head in her left hands. The idol stands in the pose of Alidha on the body of Lord Shiva.
