Sri Pydithalli Ammavari Temple in Vizianagaram and is a 18th-century temple, Puranas says, the goddess Pydimamba who belonged to the Gajapati Dynasty and she was the sister of king Vijaya Rama Raju. In 1756, the Vizianagaram king faced a continuous battle with Bobbili king. De Bussy the then french army general helped Vijaya Rama Raju to attack Bobbili on 23rd January 1757. In this Bobbili Battle, the Bobbili fort was almost demolished and many Bobbili soldiers were killed in the battle. The king’s wife and Pydimamba(Sister) were suffering from Masuchi (Illness) has tried to convince king Vijaya Rama Raju to keep away from war. At that time the king’s sister was conducting a pooja she came to know that his brother is in trouble.
She sends a message through Patiwada Appala Naidu (soldier). Tandra Papa Rayudu kills king Vijaya Rama Rajuin this battle. By knowing the news Pydimamba faints and falls ill. She tells that she can not live anymore, and her soul will join Mata Durga Devi after she dies. She passed away on Monday and Tuesday, the villagers found an idol of her near Pedda Cheruvu (lake), where the temple is constructed.
