Mother Kanakadurgeswari, the goddess of power, wealth and compassion, is the presiding deity in the Kanakadurga temple at Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. The deity in this temple is regarded as self-manifested (Swayambhu), and hence very powerful. It is believed that the great scholar and sage Adi Shankara visited here and installed the Sri Chakra in this temple.

The temple situated on the top of Indrakiladri hill at Vijayawada on the banks of Krishna River has amazing beauty. It is believed that this self-manifested deity of Kanaka durga also takes the aspects of Chandi, the destroyer of demon Durgama who created chaos among the peace-loving people of Dakshinapatha.
