Domlur Chokkanathaswamy Temple Timings, History

Domlur Sri Chokkanathaswamy Temple or Chokka Perumal Temple is an ancient temple in Domlur, Bangalore, Karnataka. It is one of the oldest temples in the city. Based on the inscriptions the temple is at least as old as 1200CE. The main deity is Sri Vishnu worshipped as Sri Chokkanathaswamy with his consorts Goddesses Bhudevi and Sridevi. The idols are made with Saligrama Shila which is found in the Gandaki River, Nepal. Traditional dress is allowed for darshan.

Chokkanathaswamy Temple History:

This Chokkanathaswamy temple during the Chola period is considered the oldest temple in Bangalore. There are several notable carvings and ornamental elements in the complex and the temple faces east. A Tamil inscription dating from 1270 AD stated on a door frame that the doors were given by an Alagiyar and another inscription indicates the gift of a Talaikattu and another inscription dated 1290 AD. reports that Poysala Vira Ramananda made donations to the temple. The Navrang Vijayanagara style and later editions are the pillars.
