Moti Doongri is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha, situated Near Birla Temple J.L.N Marg, Jaipur, Rajasthan. Moti Doongri is a small hill around which the city of Jaipur flourishes. Moti Doongri means pearls hill because the hill actually looks like a drop of pearls. The design and structure of the Moti Dungri temple are Nagara style and are based on the Scottish castle model. There are three entrance doors and a few steps in the front.
The Temple is surrounded by a beautiful palace with the same name. This palace surrounding the temple premises resembles the look of a Scottish castle. There are 3 domes in the temple which symbolize the three main religions of our country. The temple is built with stone carvings and is also known for its exquisite trellis work on marble. Legend has it that in the 17th century, when the King of Mewar returned home, he carried an Lord Ganesha idol on an bullock cart. He declared that where the oxcart would first stop, he would build a temple.
The cart stopped at the foot of Moti Doongri hill, which became the site of the temple. The construction of the temple was entrusted to Seth Jairam Paliwal and Mahant Shiv Narain, who built this temple in four years and it was completed in 1761. It was built with limestone and marbles.
