ಅಥ ಶ್ರೀ ಮಾತೃಪಂಚಕಮ್ ।
ಮುಕ್ತಾಮಣಿ ತ್ವಂ ನಯನಂ ಮಮೇತಿ
ರಾಜೇತಿ ಜೀವೇತಿ ಚಿರ ಸುತ ತ್ವಮ್ ।
ಇತ್ಯುಕ್ತವತ್ಯಾಸ್ತವ ವಾಚಿ ಮಾತಃ
ದದಾಮ್ಯಹಂ ತಂಡುಲಮೇವ ಶುಷ್ಕಮ್ ॥ 1॥
ಅಂಬೇತಿ ತಾತೇತಿ ಶಿವೇತಿ ತಸ್ಮಿನ್
ಪ್ರಸೂತಿಕಾಲೇ ಯದವೋಚ ಉಚ್ಚೈಃ ।
ಕೃಷ್ಣೇತಿ ಗೋವಿನ್ದ ಹರೇ ಮುಕುನ್ದ
ಇತಿ ಜನನ್ಯೈ ಅಹೋ ರಚಿತೋಽಯಮಂಜಲಿಃ ॥ 2॥
ಆಸ್ತಂ ತಾವದಿಯಂ ಪ್ರಸೂತಿಸಮಯೇ ದುರ್ವಾರಶೂಲವ್ಯಥಾ
ನೈರುಚ್ಯಂ ತನುಶೋಷಣಂ ಮಲಮಯೀ ಶಯ್ಯಾ ಚ ಸಂವತ್ಸರೀ ।
ಏಕಸ್ಯಾಪಿ ನ ಗರ್ಭಭಾರಭರಣಕ್ಲೇಶಸ್ಯ ಯಸ್ಯಾಕ್ಷಮಃ
ದಾತುಂ ನಿಷ್ಕೃತಿಮುನ್ನತೋಽಪಿ ತನಯಸ್ತಸ್ಯೈ ಜನನ್ಯೈ ನಮಃ ॥ 3॥
ಗುರುಕುಲಮುಪಸೃತ್ಯ ಸ್ವಪ್ನಕಾಲೇ ತು ದೃಷ್ಟ್ವಾ
ಯತಿಸಮುಚಿತವೇಶಂ ಪ್ರಾರುದೋ ಮಾಂ ತ್ವಮುಚ್ಚೈಃ ।
ಗುರುಕುಲಮಥ ಸರ್ವಂ ಪ್ರಾರುದತ್ತೇ ಸಮಕ್ಷಂ
ಸಪದಿ ಚರಣಯೋಸ್ತೇ ಮಾತರಸ್ತು ಪ್ರಣಾಮಃ ॥ 4॥
ನ ದತ್ತಂ ಮಾತಸ್ತೇ ಮರಣಸಮಯೇ ತೋಯಮಪಿವಾ
ಸ್ವಧಾ ವಾ ನೋ ದತ್ತಾ ಮರಣದಿವಸೇ ಶ್ರಾದ್ಧವಿಧಿನಾ ।
ನ ಜಪ್ತ್ವಾ ಮಾತಸ್ತೇ ಮರಣಸಮಯೇ ತಾರಕಮನು-
ರಕಾಲೇ ಸಮ್ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತೇ ಮಯಿ ಕುರು ದಯಾಂ ಮಾತುರತುಲಾಮ್ ॥ 5॥

ಅಂಬಾ ಇತಿ ತಾತ ಇತಿ ಶಿವ ಇತಿ ತಸ್ಮಿನ್
ಪ್ರಸೂತಿಕಾಲೇ ಯದವೋಚ ಉಚ್ಚೈಃ ।
ಕೃಷ್ಣೇತಿ ಗೋವಿನ್ದ ಹರೇ ಮುಕುಂದ ಇತಿ ಜನನ್ಯೈ
ಅಹೋ ರಚಿತೋಽಯಂ ಅಂಜಲಿಃ ॥ 2॥
ಆಸ್ತಂ ತಾವದ್ ಇಯಂ ಪ್ರಸೂತಿಸಮಯೇ ದುರ್ವಾರಶೂಲವ್ಯಥಾ
ನೈರುಚ್ಯಂ ತನುಶೋಷಣಂ ಮಲಮಯೀ ಶಯ್ಯಾ ಚ ಸಂವತ್ಸರೀ ।
ಏಕಸ್ಯಾಪಿ ನ ಗರ್ಭಭಾರ ಭರಣ ಕ್ಲೇಶಸ್ಯ ಯಸ್ಯ ಅಕ್ಷಮಃ
ದಾತುಂ ನಿಷ್ಕೃತಿಂ ಉನ್ನತೋಽಪಿ ತನಯಃ ತಸ್ಯೈ ಜನನ್ಯೈ ನಮಃ ॥ 3॥

ಯತಿಸಮುಚಿತವೇಶಂ ಪ್ರಾರುದೋ ಮಾಂ ತ್ವಮುಚ್ಚೈಃ ।
ಗುರುಕುಲಮಥ ಸರ್ವಂ ಪ್ರಾರುದತ್ ತೇ ಸಮಕ್ಷಂ
ಸಪದಿ ಚರಣಯೋಸ್ತೇ ಮಾತರಸ್ತು ಪ್ರಣಾಮಃ ॥ 4॥
ನ ದತ್ತಂ ಮಾತಸ್ತೇ ಮರಣಸಮಯೇ ತೋಯಮಪಿವಾ
ಸ್ವಧಾ ವಾ ನೋ ದತ್ತಾ ಮರಣದಿವಸೇ ಶ್ರಾದ್ಧವಿಧಿನಾ ।
ನ ಜಪ್ತ್ವಾ ಮಾತಸ್ತೇ ಮರಣಸಮಯೇ ತಾರಕಮನುಃ
ಅಕಾಲೇ ಸಮ್ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತೇ ಮಯಿ ಕುರು ದಯಾಂ ಮಾತುರತುಲಾಮ್ ॥ 5 ॥
ಇತಿ ಶ್ರೀಮತ್ ಶಂಕರಾಚಾರ್ಯ ವಿರಚಿತಂ ಮಾತೃಪಂಚಕಮ್ ।
mAtRipanchakam Meaning:
You are the pearl of my eyes, my prince, may you live long, son!
In your mouth, that spoke these words, O Mother!,
I now offer dry grains of rice. (1)
Mother!! Father!! Shiva!! with these words You cried out loudly the time of child birth – KrishNa! Govinda! Hare! Mukunda! To that mother I now bow with folded hands offering funerary libations. (2)
At the time of giving birth to me, O Mother!, you suffered from unbearable pain. You did not speak about the suffering of your body nor of your painful condition while lying in the bed for almost a year. For even one of the sufferings that you underwent during pregnancy, O Mother!, a son is unable to offer atonement. To that mother I offer my salutations! (3)
When in a dream, you saw me dressed like an ascetic, You cried aloud and came to the school. The whole school then immediately cried before you. At your feet, O Mother ! I offer my obeisance! (4)
I did not offer you water at the time of your death, Oh Mother! I did not even offer the oblations as per funerary rites on the day of your death ! Nor did I repeat the mantra that delivers one across the ocean of this world! Alas! I have come at an inappropriate time! O Mother! Bestow upon me your unequalled compassion. (5)
