Shibpur Dashmahavidya Temple is located in Shibpur, Howrah, West Bengal. This temple is not founded by any Spiritual Devotee or Saint. This temple is founded by the club members of Shibpur Bijoyee Sangha. In other words, it can be said that it is founded as per the strong will of Maa Herself. In 1958, some enthusiastic youngs started a Sarbojonin Kali Puja in Shibpur Bijoyee Sangha. Within 3-4 years this puja became famous in the locality, because of its strict adherence to religious rites, attractive decoration of puja pandel and colorful procession for immersion. At that time this Kali Puja was celebrated for 7-8 days. In 1964, Dashmahavidya Puja was started instead of Kali Puja. Ten forms of Dashmahavidya were worshipped for ten days.
The Dashmahavidyas are a group of ten aspects of “Maha Shakti” in Hinduism. At the Dashmahavidya temple of Shibpur Bijoyee Sangha in Shibpur, ten idols of Dashmahavidya are worshiped daily. In addition to the 10 idols, there are two other idols of Shiva and Sati with a posture of Sati showing her ten forms of Dashmahavidya to her husband Shiva to force him to allow him to attend the fire sacrifice, organized by his father. ‘Dasksha’, without inviting Shiva. The details of each maha vidya are described in a Bengali book “Mrinmoyee Theke Chinmoyee”, published by Shibpur Bijoyee Sangha.
Apart from Sati Devi and Lord Shiva Idols, Kali, Tara, Tripura Sundari (Shodoshi), Bhuvaneshvari, Tripura Bhairavi, Chhinnamasta, Dhumavati, Bagalamukhi, Matangi and Kamala indols are also present in this temple.
