Local inhabitants believe that the theertham has some divine and yogic powers and would divinely and spiritually benefit from taking a dip on Maargazhi day.
Sanaka Sanandana Theertham is associated with two sages named Sanaka and Sanandana who performed penance here. One day they went to Vaikuntham to see Sri Maha Vishnu but were not permitted by the guards called Jaya and Vijaya. Sages then cursed the guards that they would take birth as Danavas or demons. After three rebirths, these two guards regained their original form and went back to Vaikuntham.
On Margazhi day, if anyone bathes in this holy Theertham, he/she is highly rewarded and relieved from all their sins. Bathing in this water is truly refreshing and is said to wash away evils and bestow good fortune.
The best time for visiting this place is during the rainy season, this place looks even more beautiful with greenery around and with white water gushing out of the rocks.
