Urakam Sri Ammathiruvadi Temple Timings, History

Valayadheeswari temple or Ammathiruvadi temple is located in Urakam village, Thrissur, Kerala. The idol is very unique as it is only cleansed with peacock feathers. This temple is under the administration of Cochin Devaswam council. The temple is at a distance of 11 km from Thrissur Railway Station, dedicated to Goddess Durga/Shakti and it is regarded as one of the great 108 Durga temples.

There are 4 temples on all four sides of the temple of Ammathiruvadi where Sri Vishnu and Lord Siva are the main deities. Here devotees can also worship the Devi as Durga as well as Saraswathi and get the blessings. Here the Goddess being a Kanyaka (Virgin), no fragrant flowers are used for the pooja.

According to the history of Kerala, Poomulli Namboothiri or Thiruvalayannur Bhattathiri founded the temple of Ammathiruvadi about 700 to 1000 years ago. The temple consists of two majestic Gopurams called Mathilkettu and Ootupura Naalambalam and the two-story Sreekovil (sanctum sanctorum).

The Makeeram Porapadu is one of the great events held in this temple. This festival is considered to be the beginning of Ammathiruvadi’s journey for the Arattupuzha Pooram held at the Arattupuzha temple. This temple plays an important role in Arattupuzha Pooram.

Lord Ayyappa, Lord Ganesh, Lord Subramanya and Nagaraja are the other dieties in the temple compound. Guruvayurappan Temple is just 40 km from here.
