Bidar Sri Narasimha Jharni Cave Temple Timings, History, Distance

Lord Narsimha Swamy is the 4th avatar of Sri Vishnu and he has a lion’s head and a human body. In Indian mythology, Lord Narasimha emerges from a pillar and saves Prahallad from his demon father Hiranyakashipu. There are several temples dedicated to Lord Narasimha and among them the Narsimha Jharna Cave Temple in Bidar is unique.

The specialty of this cave temple is that, the statue of Narasimha is inside a cave and the cave tunnel is full of water at all times. The Narasimha statue is at the end of the cave and devotees must literally walk inside the cave full of 4 to 5 feet of water to reach the deity. People have to walk one by one inside the tunnel. The space being smaller, only 8 to 9 people can enter the sanctuary.

In this shrine, a Shiva Linga is also there with the idol of Narasimha Swamy. Jalasura is believed to have been a great devotee of Shiva and therefore the cave is home to the Linga which he worshipped.

Jharni Narasimha Swamy is also known as Narasimha Zarani Cave Temple and Narasimha Jharana.
