What is Kala Sarpa Dosha?

Kaala Sarpa Dosh is all about a faulty planetary position, with a snake-like formation, found in the person’s natal birth chart. In a dosha like this, the planetary positions are such that Rahu (head of the snake) and Ketu (tail of the snake) happen to fall on the beginning and end of the formation, respectively. There are many other ways by which Kaal Sarpa Yoga can be formed, the moon in the eight houses of the natal chart being one of the ways. However, there are no rules of thumb to Kaal Sarpa Dosha and it requires a good astrologer to study the planetary position accurately. The person suffering from Kala Sarpa Yoga finds it difficult life to lead a happy life. He/she suffering from Kala Sarpa Dosha has problems in married life, loss of money and constant health problems. The Dosha can be cured and controlled by offering prayers to Lord Shiva at some chosen destinations. Srikalahasti is one of them.

Rahu Kethu Pooja / Sarpa dosha / Graha doshas / Sarva Doshas Puja:

Rahu Ketu Pooja and Sarpdosha Puja are performed in order to minify the ill effects of yoga. Thousands of devotees flock to Srikalahasti to get the desired results through this pooja. Many of these pujas are performed with ascertained results for those who suffer from marital discord, not begetting children, problems in jobs and many long-standing problems. The puja is performed to neutralize the malefic effects of the planets and cut out its negative effect on the life of the individual.

The Pooja:

The Rahu Ketu Pooja lasts for 30-40 minutes, and it is always better to get the pooja performed during Rahu kalam. Unlike other pooja that consists of havan or Homa (fire ceremony), the Rahu Ketu Nivran Pooja is all done by chanting mantras for two metallic snake strips that represent Rahu and Ketu. Flowers and vermillion are sprinkled or proffered to the Rahu Ketu representing metals while the mantra is cantillated to complete the whole puja routine. Mantra recitations are also done in favor of one’s gotra, caste and janma nakshatra. ** No need to discard your clothes or having a bath after the pooja. You can go in the same clothes.

Best Timing to perform Rahu Ketu Pooja :

For Sani Bhagavan Saturdays are the best day.
For Rahu Ketu, Monday is the best day.
For Dakshina Moorthy Thursday is the best day.

Note:
It is suggested and advised to plan your journey exclusively if going for pooja as it takes a fair amount of time for the completion of the same.

  2. Hello Sir,

I’m hema from Malaysia. I am having problem wif getting married.each time there will be problem arise. I was told that I have Naga dosham..is it ok if I perform Kala Sarpa dosha pooja ?

    1. Dear Hema
Yes by performing Kala Sarpa dosha pooja all your doshas will be washed away.
Try to offer gingerly oil lamp on every Saturday to Lord Shani Bhagawan and donate any thing which is Black. For eg:- Black Cloth, Iron etc. REMEMBER not to buy any thing related to Black color or iron on Saturday, if you believe on such things. Why don’t you consult an Astrologer to know about which planet is faulty for you. So that you can perform pooja according to the fault.
There are three doshas which leads you to delay in marriage or development in your career. One is Lord Sani Planet, next the Kujha Dosha, and the Rahu or Kethu.
      Ohm Namah Shivaya

  3. Our astrologer has told us to perform “Rahu Ketu Santhi Pooja” in Kalahasti temple.
We are planning to come to the temple on a Tuesday after visiting Tirupathi temple.
    1. Do I need to bring any Pooja items like pancha patram/plate etc, or will all items be provided by the temple/priest?
    2. Are there limited tickets distributed per day for this pooja which we need to get early in the morning?
    3. Is the pooja ticket given based on timings? So if I come on Tuesday, Rahu kalam is 3-4:30, so do I need to buy a ticket for this time specificially?
    4. Are there any do’s and don’ts before and after this pooja? For example, dont go to some place after the puja etc?

For eg – Iron, Black Cloth etc. Before commencing the pooja, please contact the nearest Shiva Temple or the Venkateshwara Temple (if any), Priest / Poojari. Also recite the Sani Deva Sahasranamavali Sthothra available in the internet. You can download the Sthothra.
Worship Subrahmanya Swamy or the Snake Hoods present in many temples on every Tuesday in the Rahu kala – 03.00 pm to 04.30 pm, by flaming a Lamp filled with Gingelly oil and some flowers, Banana and betel leaves. Donate RED Colored Grains such as Ragi, Red Grams etc on every Tuesday after pooja. This will also get you relief from the Doshas.

      OR

Perform pooja to Lord Naga or Nageshwar on the day of Nagulachavithy and the 12 consecutive Sukla Paksha Panchami days one can set free from the Naga or Sarpa Dosham completely. The Priests will recite some Manthras and you should also recite the same after them. It takes 30 – 40 minutes to complete. With you one adult and two childrens are allowed for the Lord & Gnana Mother’s Dharshan.
1). Not require to discard your dresses or take a bath. You can go straight away to your home. Can visit any temples on the way if you would like to.
2). You can perform at any time from morning six till evening six, but best time is Rahukal – 09.00 am till 10.30 am.
3). There is no Nishta followed after to follow. Just go home straight to your home. That’s it.

    please provide your valuable feedback.
    thanks and regards
    S.Nadarajan

    1. Dear Mr. S.Nadarajan
The pooja will be done all the day thro, which starts from early morning 06.00 am till 06.00 pm. But the most auspicious time that devotees believe is that the Rahu Kalam time fetches best results. So better try to perform the pooja at that time. If it is not possible for you to reach in time (Rahu Kalam), you may do it during the rest or the Hours. It all depends on our devotion that we present duing the pooja, that’s it.
Remember if you want to perform the pooja by 10.30 am to 12.00 pm, then you should be there near the Temple counter 1 ½ hrs prior to the Rahu Kala Time.
It is an open counter. Not online or pre – booking are available. On your own you can buy the Ticket if you reach the temple counter as I wrote above. The counter appears to your right side after entering the south faced entrance and to the left side of the western faced entrance.
Wear Traditional dress – Dhothi and vest or shirt – is a must.

  24. Dear sir
I am from mumbai and I have rahu on 7th house my still single is there rahu dosh in my kundali it will really kind of u if u help me out I have seen above all reply by u sir I m hoping to recive ans from u as earlier as I am planing to visit Srikalasti n tirupati my birth details are as under
    Name dhiren
    Dob 8.feb.83
    Place mumbai india
    Time 04.33.00 am morning

    1. Dear Mr. Dhiren
My Astrologer says that you do not have Sarpa Dosha or Rahu Kethu Dosha and you need not required to perform Rahu Kala pooja. For your satisfaction you may do it, not a problem. But due to stay of Sukra and Kuja in a single house and your Janma Nakshatra is Moola nakshathra, you find some distractions or hard times. Not for long period.
Solution: Worship your FAMILY LORD/GOD and worshiping Lord Sani Bhagawan for seven consecutive Saturdays will get you out from the problems you are facing. For more information about how to worship Lord Sani Bhagawan, contact the Temple priest in the nearby Lord Shiva or Vishnu (any incarnations) Temple.
Pooja Procedure: Just light up a lamp pouring Gingely oil or gingely seed covered in a cloth, keep it in the oil in the Lamp and light it and offer it to Lord Sani Bhagawan for seven weeks. Also recite the Sani Sahasranamavali Sthothram.
NEVER PURCHASE Iron or Black colored things on Saturday. As Black is a symbol of Lord Sani Bhagawan.

  25. Hi,

I dont know whether I have Rahu&Ketu dosa or not, But I want to do the parihara dosa pooja for Rahu and Ketu. Is there a river to bath or we can take bath at hotel and do the pooja respectively. If we carry 2 dresses like pancha or lungi are we allowed to carry those baggage into parihara place or not. And I dont know particulary Rahu Ketu dosa. If you could know any astrologist at Sri Kalahsti can you please give me the details so that I will met them after my pooja.

    1. Please confirm with an Astrologer near your living place itself and then perform the pooja. Because according to the problem one has to do the pooja on a particular day. For eg – if you think problem due to sani Bhagawan you have to perform the pooja on Saturday. For Rahu
      Kethu it’s Monday.
There is no good river water to have a bath. You have to take a bath in a hotel only. You can carry your belongings with you except your
      Mobile.

  28. Hi Sir,
My marriage is getting delayed..My Parents are worried about me, A few people told them, I have Naga dosha, Shani and Ketu doshas..I am planning to visit Shri Kalahasti this saturday 6th Dec..Please advise me, All poojas can be done at same or each one has to perform separately.

    Kind Regards,
    Srinivas

    1. Dear Mr.Srinivas
Saturdays is the best day to perform pooja during the Rahu Kalam time for one who suffer with Sani Dosha. For Rahu Ketu disorder, Rahu Kalam on Monday is the best day. So you have to perform pooja individually on separate days to each of the Lord. Also please check with an astrologer whether you have Sani Dosha or Rahu Kethu Dosha and decide what to do.
For Sani Dosha another pooja is there offered / worship to Lord Sani Bhagavan present among the Nava Grahas in most of the Temples on seven consecutive Saturdays. Its is simple pooja. Just take on a Saturday and light up a Gingely oil lamp and keep it before Sani Bhagavan and recite Sani Sahasra Mamavali. If this is done for seven Saturdays Lord Sani favor for you. Information regarding this pooja you can ask your nearest temple for more or exact details.
Another temple to perform Sani Dosha pooja is Lord Japali Theertha. It is about 3 km from Thirumala Sri Vari Temple. If you go there they perform a pooja for Sani Dosha. After that you have to tie a Hanuman Dollar. For further details you can contact Mr. Shiva Prasad Sharma (Check your mail for his phone number).
You can also worship Lord Venkateshwara at Srinivasa Mangapuram before or after performing the Rahu Kethu or Sani Dosha pooja at Sree Kalahasthi. This Lord will remove the distracts of delay marriage and very soon it is believed that one gets married.

    1. Dear Meenachi
For one ticket only one person can perform the pooja. you can sit with him when he is performing the pooja. If you want to perform you have to buy one more ticket.

  29. i want to perform rahu ketu kalsarpa dosha nivarana puja at sri kalahasti with my wife. please advice if i do it after visiting tirupati or before going to visit lord venkateswara swamy. thank you.

    1. Dear Mr. Adithya

You can perform Rahu ketu dosha nivarana puja before or after visiting lord venkateswara swamy.

  30. Hi
I have a doubt about that is sarva dhosha nivarana and rahu kethu pooja is same or different. If different I attende for two poojas. actually I have kala sarpa dhosha and my wife has garba dosha . Please help me

    1. Dear Mr. Shyam
Some Legends Rahu means the head part of the Snake and Kethu means the Tail part of the Snake.
Some other says Rahu stays in the head part of the snake and Kethu stays in the Tail part of the snake.
According to Sri Kalahasthi Temple, both are same. There is no difference between Sarpa Dosha Nivarani and Rahu Kethu pooja.
To know about Garbha Dosha you can contact (check your mail for the contact number).

      1. Dear Sir,

Thanks much for the information. We want to perform this pooja on a wednesday. Hope the ticket counters are open.

        Thanks and regards,

  32. Hi
I have problems related to job. I am out of job and trying hard to get one. Lot of obstacles and delays.
I have kala sarpa dosa. Rahu and sani both are in tenth place from my lagnam in horoscope.

Which is the ideal day for me to do the Pooja (timing is Rahu kalam..that I am aware) ?

Please also let me know, 1. do we need to stay a night at kalahasthi ?

    2. Do we need to change the clothes and take bath after doing this parihara, in Kalahasthi itself or after coming home ? Please note we are planning to come home from Kalahasthi and not planning to go from any temple from Kalahasthi.

    3. Do we need to discard those clothes which we wore during Pariharam ?

    4. Performing Abhishekam to Lord shiva after doing Pariharam, is mandatory or not ? If so, timings for Shiva Abhishekam after Rahu and Kalam Parihara pooja timings is feasabile or not ? I think there will be time clash…How many times abhishekam for shiva will be done in a day ?

    1. Dear Suganya

  33. Hi Sir,

I’ m living in abroad . I’m coming for vacation to the village near bhimavaram in January for a month. We decided to do the Rahu ketu pooja on January 12th which is on Monday. So, we have booked the train tickets for Narsapur LTT Express, which will arrive Srikalahasti by 3:30 am and return train is at 8:30 pm. I saw online that on Monday Rahu ketu pooja timings is 7:30 am to 9:00 am. As it is the first visit to srikalahasti for me, I have a following doubts,

I heard that there is no online tickets available and tickets can be purchased on the same day. So to avoid tension of getting tickets,
1 ) Can I sent my friend near by Srikalahasti to purchase the tickets before day of our pooja ?
Do we have the facility of getting tickets before the day of pooja ?
Because it is Monday I ‘m thinking that there will be huge crowd for Rahu ketu pooja and
getting the tickets will be difficult in that crowd.. Am I correct ?
    2) I want the pooja to be done both on the names of me and my husband, So, one ticket is enough for both or do we need to take two tickets ?
    3) Traditional dress for males means, pancha is must or can they wear formal pants with towel on
    shoulder ?
    4) After coming to Sri kalahasti we like to stay in hotel near to temple to have a bath and get ready there and come to the temple for pooja. As our return train is at 8:30 pm. Can we go to the hotel after performing rahu ketu pooja ?
    5) Will there be an sufficient time to attend Rudra abhishekam after rahu ketu pooja ? and can we take tickets of rudra abhishekam along with tickets of rahu ketu pooja ?
    6) What are the good places to see near temple ? (as we have time till 8:00 pm)
    7) Please suggest some good hotels to stay for 4 people ( we are coming with my parents) near temple.

Please clarify all my above doubts.

    Thanks & Regards,
    Indu

Thank you so much for the information. I changed my timings so that I will arrive @5.am by train.

One important thing you mentioned formal dress.. is the formal pant and shirt works?? I heard some will wear dhoti to perform puja and the same will be left out after puja.. Please suggest. I have no dhoti so that I will make sure that I get one.

Since I am alone can I carry my luggage into temple I mean if I should do bath after puja and all???

        1. Dear Mr.Mani
You can carry your luggage with you. Formal is Mandatory, so please buy a dhoti for the puja. After puja you change your dhoti.
