Sri Kalahasti Kalahasteeswara Swamy temple is located 36 km away from Tirupathi in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, India. The inner temple was constructed around the 5th Century, and the outer temple was built in the 12th Century.
According to ancient Tamil sources, Sri Kalahasti has been known as the ‘Kailas of the South’ for slightly more than two thousand years, and the small river on whose banks it sits, the ‘Ganges of the South.’ Kailas is India’s most revered spiritual symbol. It is the abode of Shiva, from whose head, according to legend, the Ganges is said to flow. Shiva, ‘that which is auspicious at all places, times and in all circumstances’, is a symbol of the Self and the Ganges flowing from his head represents the spiritualized or awakened mind. A mind sourced in Spirit is a river of immeasurable power and life-giving goodness. The claim that Kalahasti is the ‘Kailas of the South’ means that the small hill near the temple is to be taken as the spiritual equivalent of the Himalayan Kailas. Likewise, the small river flowing in a northerly direction beside the temple will be taken as the mighty Ganges.
Even the cardinal directions have assumed symbolic significance in Pauranic culture. Context should be taken into account when divining the meaning of a symbol, but north, for example, is said to be the abode of the Self because, from the immortal ‘northern’ position, the Self looks out on the ‘southern’ world of time and death. The idiom “head south’ means to go downhill, to decay. The God Dakshinamurthy, whose name means ‘the one facing south’ and whose idol (Murthy) is installed in the Kalahasti Temple, sits in the North and faces south. East often represents the dawning of wisdom, the sun being another common Self-symbol. The symbolic use of direction culminates in the idea of building temples at the point on a river where its meandering points it back to its source. The holiest city in India, Benaras, is built on a stretch of the Ganges that flows northward, the idea being that when the mind turns back toward its source, the God/Self, it realizes its innate divinity. So, the small river on whose banks the Kalahasthi temple is situated is meant to remind us of the Ganges and the wealth of spiritual associations it conjures.
The Vedas posit four ends for which human beings strive in their search for happiness: pleasure (kama), security or wealth (artha), duty (dharma) and freedom (moksha). In the temple at Kalahasti, these four universal motivations, which may take any worldly form, are converted into spiritual impulses, according to temple literature. They are represented by four deities facing in the four cardinal directions. In the form of Dakshinamoorthy, Shiva represents desire, in this case, the desire for liberation. However, he is more commonly said to represent the feeling of wealth (Dakshina) that comes when you know who you are. At Kalahasti, the Goddess Gnanaprasoonamba (the giver of knowledge or the mother of all knowledge) represents the ‘wealth’, i.e. freedom from limitation conferred by Self-knowledge. The deity Kalahastishwara (the Lord of Kalahasti) faces west and symbolizes liberation. Liberation, the death of ego upon the rediscovery of the Self, is the final stage of life, just as setting is the sun’s last act before it disappears over the horizon. Unfortunately, the temple literature from which this information was gleaned neglected to mention the fourth deity.
The most revered and universal symbol of the Self is the human form, ‘man cast in the image of God, and its spiritual significance is difficult to overestimate. Rather than conceive of us as tainted, sinful human creatures, the Upanishad tells us we are divine. It says, “That which you worship there is this that you see here.” The ineffable, formless God/Self-perceived by mystics is this whole world and everything in it. While Hindu deities often sport dozens of arms and animal heads, their essential forms are recognizably human. Probably no other idea accounts for the astonishing fact that one billion people stuffed into a landmass one-third the size of the United States undoubtedly handle their lives more confidently than their prosperous Western counterparts.
Sri Kalahasti got its name because, in the days of yore, a spider (Sri), the serpent (Kala) and the elephant (Hasti) elephant worshipped Lord Shiva with great devotion. A spider lived in the inner sanctum and worshipped the Lord by weaving elaborate temples and images of Shiva. A breeze caused the altar fire to destroy the spider’s offerings one day. It became angry and was about to gulp down the flame (realize the Self), endangering its (ego’s) life. Appreciative of its devotion, Shiva appeared and granted the spider a boon. The spider requested moksha, release from the cycle of births and deaths. Accordingly, it became one with Shiva, the Self.
A cobra worshipped Lord Shiva by offering rare gems, pearls and rubies from Nagaland, a mythical place where Nagas (serpents) dwell. Serpents are one of India’s most visible symbols of the spiritual power of the Self. The spiritual power of the Self, called Kundalini, the latent electricity of Consciousness, is hidden in the dark recesses of the unconscious like a snake hidden deep within the earth. After the snake had worshipped, an elephant, fresh from its purifying bath in the nearby river, came to worship. In preparation, it sprayed the altar with water from its trunk, scattering the gems. It then proceeded to decorate the altar with leaves from a holy tree. When the cobra returned, it was angered to see its offerings disrespected and replaced by mere leaves. So, it replaced the leaves with gems. This charade repeated itself every day until the cobra became fed up and decided to punish whoever was destroying its offerings. When the elephant returned to worship with its leaves, the cobra slithered up its trunk and injected its venom. In agony, the elephant dashed its head on the stone altar to kill the snake. The snake fell out of the trunk and died from its wounds, and the elephant succumbed to the poison.
Understanding that both had sacrificed their lives for their love of the Lord, Shiva resurrected them, gave them liberation and took them into his own body. At the foot of the linga, one can see a spider, two elephant tusks and a five-headed (the five elements) serpent to remind the devotee of these acts of supreme devotion.
Uniqueness of Sri Kalahasteeswara Swamy :
- The uniqueness about the Idol of Sree Kalahasthi Temple is that Lord Siva manifested here having all the 27 Nakshatras (stars) and 9 Rashis in his Kavacham.
- Sri Kalahasti temple is the only temple that is kept open during Grahanam (Solar and Lunar Eclipse) also.
- Even Priests don’t touch the Sivalingam here with hands.
- Famous Temple for Rahu Kethu Pooja, Kala Sarpa Dosha Nivarana Pooja, Manglik Dosha Or Kujha Dosha, Sani Disha and Pitru Dosha.
Sri Gnanaprasunambika Devi
Lord Shiva taught Goddess Parvathi the Sacred Panchatkhari (Five Letters) mantra and told her to do Japa with concentration. But Goddess Parvathi did Japa but without concentration. So Lord Shiva became angry and cursed Goddess Parvathi to be born as an ordinary woman. Goddess Parvathi realized her mistake and prayed to Lord Shiva to relieve her from the curse given by him.
So God Shiva said to Goddess Parvathi that on her human birth, she should pray to Shivalinga, who is near Mount Kailas, to come out of the curse given by him. Goddess Parvathi requested Sage Naradha to help her to go to Dakshina Kailas to perform penance. Goddess Parvathi performed penance and prayed to Lord Shivalinga. Lord Shiva was pleased with the penance and prayer of Goddess Parvathi, and again, he taught her with Sacred Panchatkhari Mantra. Then, she accepted her as his consort after Goddess Parvathi attained Panchatkhari Japasiddi. From that time onwards, Goddess Parvathi was called Gnanaprasunambika and showed her devotees supreme knowledge.
If you are planning on visiting the temple here are some tips:
This temple itself is a great architectural piece of art. Spend some time exploring the temple. You can see that the inside pillars are as fresh as they were hundreds of years back because they were hidden from degradation by nature.
Please plan your trip so that you can spend some time exploring the physical and spiritual beauty of the temple.
In the outer temple, as soon as you enter the temple gates (after the shops)on your left, you will see the old idol of Sri Gnanaprasunambika Devi (the original one), which was placed outside for some reason. Still, a lot of people pray to it.
Pathala Ganapathi:-
By the way, do not forget to see the Pathala Ganapathi who is associated with the old Siva lingam beneath the temple. You cannot see the Old Siva Lingam (related to the old Story of Sri Kalahasti) beneath the temple but you can imagine it (and the real story) when you see the Lord Ganapathi. Patala Ganapati is a small underground temple located in the temple complex. Pilgrims should make it a point to visit this interesting place. One has to bow down carefully to worship this Ganesh 20 feet below on a very narrow staircase.

You perform Kuja Shanthi pooja at Ghati Subrahmanya temple or just recite the Kuja Shanthi manthra on every Tuesdays on your own sincerely to bless you and also worship Lord Subrahmanya daily or every Tuesdays is enough.
First contact and speak to the temple official and know the pooja cost etc and then plan.

Dear Aparna
Since you don’t have birth details here are some general remedies to beget child.
Daily worship Lord Ganesh. Observe fast on every Chathurthy thithi.
Performing sashti vrath is one of the best pooja to get pregnancy. So start the vrath on a Shukla Paksha Sashti thithi and continue till you get pregnancy. Do sincerely and ardently worship Lord Shanmuga and you may be blessed with a child if your prayers pleases the lord.
There is one temple – Garba rakshaambigai temple in TN. If you worship the Goddess and consume the prasadh given there it is strongly believed to get pregnancy.
If you are unable to visit the temple you can also book the Prasadh in the same website itself.
http://garbaratchambigaitemple.org/
If you are a resident of AP or Telangana then you can visit Mopi Devi Subrahmanya temple on a day before evening of Sashti thithi, stay there for a night and then do rahu kethu pooja during raahu kaal time on sashti thithi and make your request.
May god bless you with a child soon.

Also performing Abhishekam or pooja etc to Lord Hanuman is best to survive from such problems.
Om Namah Shivaya
really kala sarpa dosa is there, for me i not in a company for more than one year or two years, no peace of mind, restless, fear, angry not having own house. Earlier one time performed rahu ketu pooja at kalahasti. My favourite god muruga (subramanya swamy).
In my birth chart ketu in 2nd house and rahu & venus in 8th house in between all the houses are empty. Now can you pls. tell when i will own a new house, when i will get regular job. Dhanusu lagnam and dhanusu rasi and moola nakshatra. Waiting for your reply.
Dear Srinivasan
If there is rahu kethu dosha then you will see all what you mentioned above. But need to check it precisely. If all the other planets comes in between the clutches of rahu and kethu and is not aspected by Jupiter then it is taken as Kaala sarpa dosham.
Doing rahu kethu pooja on regular basis is the only solution and cant say when you can achieve all what expect. It depends on the planetary positions and their duty.
So just worship Lord Ganesh and Muruga daily sincerely and ardently and seek for their graces.
If you plan to do the rahu kethu pooja then plan for a day – Sashti thithi, Krishna paksha panchami. Or any amavasya or pournami rahu kaal time. Always FIRST PERFORM GANESH POOJA FIRST AND THEN DO THE RAHU KETHU POOJA IS BEST.
May god bless you.
Om Namah Shivaya

Namste guruji.I am Reshma Ravi. birth date 9/12/1984, place Haveri Karnataka, Time 5.2am Ravi birth date 14/7/1984,Belur Karnatak, Time 4.30-5am My Marriage date 15/4/2012. Still we are not have children? about Career? About any jatak dosha is there? Sir please advise me
Dear Reshma Ravi
It is because of you average compatibility – 5.5 out of 10, you are having problems in getting a child and better or good career life.
Perform
Shasti puja is one of the most powerful pujas that helps you conceive a child. Identify the day of Sashti – the sixth day of Krishnapaksha, the dark fortnight of the lunar month to do this puja. It would fall after six days from the purrnima day.
Reshma, on every Sashti thith observe a whole day fast. Clean your house and do pooja at home. If you have idols of Lord Ganesha and Subrahmanya then you can do the pooja at home if not then go to a temple and perform the pooja.
Pooja – Peform Milk abhishekam to Lord Ganesha and Subrahmanya any where and distribute the prasadh to those who are not in fasting in your home and to others also. You keep some prasadh for you and consume after sunset. After completing the milk abhishekam chant – OM SHARAVANA BHAVAY NAMA for 108 times or Skhandha sashti kavacha.
Also offer an egg to a snake hill in a Shakthi temple on the same day during rahu kalam time.
Do this abhishek pooja on every sashti till you get a progeny. If you could please lord Subrahmanya then you will be bestowed with a child. Also tell the lord that you will name his namas.
You can also do kaala sarpa dosha pooja on a sashti thithi rahu kaala time in Kukke or Ghati Subrahmanya temples. There also you need to offer first simple pooja to Ganesha.
Namah Shivaya

There is a high Kujha dosha and hence obstacles in the matter of Profession and marriage.
Jus tbelieve in Lord Hanuman and worship.
For Mangal / Kujha dosha –
First recite any naama manthra of Lord Ganesha for 108 times and then recite Hanuman chaleesha or any naama manthra of Lord Rama. Do not eat non veg and drink alcohol. It is mustly restricted. Visit Hanuman temple daily or every Saturday or sincere worship at Home is also enough. If you could please the lord with your prayers then he will control Mars planet and help you get accomplish your fair desires.
For Malefic Kethu –
Recite Ganesha Dwadasanama Stotra daily or on every wednesday.
Or –
Japa of the Kethu beeja mantra: Om shram shreem shroum sah ketave namah, 7000 times in 40 days.
Or –
Recite the below Kethu stotra till you see the change :
Palasha pushpa sankaasham taraka graha mastakam
Roudram roudratmakam ghoram tam ketum Pranamamyaham.
Namah Shivaya.

lata
Dear Latha
Have a head bath in the morning on that day.
Take a fast – do not eat any thing in the morning or till the pooja is completed. Say no to non veg on the day or after you perform the pooja.
First perform a simple pooja to Lord Ganesha, or a simple worship is also enough.
Then perform the Rudhra Abhishekam and pradhakshina to the Rudhra Padam.
And then you go stratight to the Rahu kethu Parihar pooja sthala and perform the Parihar pooja. It lasts for 45 minutes. Then you will be allowed to have dharshan of Lord Shiva and Goddess Gnanaprasunambhika Devi.
After that you may offer a lamp in the temple.
And then go straight to you living place or to your birth place. If you are married then you should go straight to your husbands birth place only.
Have a bath and then go for the other works.
No need to discard your clothes in the temple itself.
If you have any plan to visit Tirumala, then visit that temple first and last come to Kalahasthi and do the pooja and go to your place.
Plan to perform the Parihara pooja before or after 8 days of your periods.
Rahu Kalam is the best time to perform this Parihara pooja.
Since it is an open counter to purchase the Pooja ticket, you should reach the ticket counter 2 hrs before the Rahu kalam time. You need not carry anything to the pooja. The pooja samagri will be issued along with the ticket itself. Just buy some flowers is enough. The shop keepers will say something regarding the pooja, do not bother about that.
You can perform rahu kethu parihara pooja on any day like Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Saturday rahu kalam timings.
Some other auspicious thithis are Chaturthi (Fourth day of a Paksha in Hindu month), Panchami (Fifth day), Sashti (Sixth day), Starsof Rahu and Ketu,Purnima (Full Moon), SuraGrahanam (Solar Eclipse), Chandra Grahanam (Lunar Eclipse), any Tuesday, and any AshleshaNakshatra day.
You need to do this pooja once in every six months or once in a year or according to your feasibility. Doing once and do not expect the relief from the dosha. It may or may not be wiped. Since it is a strong malefic planet doing pooja in regular interval gives good result.
Also regularly worship Lord Subrahmanya, Lord Shiva, Lord Hanuman and Lord Durga.
Namah Shivaya

Hello Sir,
My Name is Thalluri Venkata Lakshmi Srilatha. DOB: Aug9th, 1987 TOB: Between 8 to 10 pm(Approx).
My Husband name is Vedantham Subrahmanya Rakesh Sarma DOB 29th march, 1984 TOB: 4.52 PM
We are planning for children recently i got abortion. we both are facing some health problems.
Can you provide any pooja details for get rid of these problems.
Dear Srilatha,
Your Father has Gulik Kaala sarpa dosham and do Rahu kethu pooja twice in a year. First do the pooja at Sree Kalahasthi and next in Thirunageshwaram temple in Tamilnadu. You have to d Milk abhishekam for Rahu at Thirunageshwaram. So doing regularly only the dosha reduces slowly.
Tell your dad to worship Lord Ganesha before doing the Rahu kethu pooja without fail and if so then said as unfruitful.
Also worship of Lord Hanuman by reciting hanuman chaleesha daily and visit his temple. The lord gives good health if your dad pleases the god with his prayers.

Hello Sir/Madam,
My name is sravanthi. My DOB 05/05/1989 Time: 05:08PM.
My Daughter name is Aaradhya DOB: 15/05/2014. Time: 06:42PM.
My marriage life is not good. Me and my husband separated.
Can you tell ,
which pooja will do to get rid of all worries and get good marriage life.
How is my and my daughter horoscope or we had any dosha in our horoscopes.
Thank you in advance.
Dear Mrs.Sravanthi
Our Astrologer will only give the check result of Rahu Kethu and Kujha dosha. Both of you dont have Kaala Sarpa Dosha and you dont have Kujha Dosha also.
Send me your husband date place and time of birth. See whether there is such Dosha in his chart.
To get peace in your conjugal life you can worship Lord Ardhanareeshwara swamy (Shiva) by reciting the Ardhanareeshwara Sthothram on every Monday evening 06.00 till you see the change. This is said to be an effective pooja for problematic conjugal life.
And also you can worship Lord Hanuman (daily or every Saturday and Tuesday by reciting the Hanuman Chaleesha) to get prevention from any sort of Navagraha Dosha. Remember to maintain complete neatness while praying the lord. And Lord Subrahmanya on every Tuesday reciting the Skandha Shasthi Kavacham. Praying him can get relief form Naga Dosha if any.
It is not a flaw in doing the Rahu Kethu Pooja for you. You may do it. At Kalahasthi its simple.
Hi sir,
Can i recite Ardhanareeshwara Sthothram daily on morning timings ( 5 to 6 AM) including monday.
Thanks
Sravanthi
Dear Sravanthi,
Early morning 5 to 6 am is best time to worship Lord Vishnu and for Lord Shiva evening 6 to 7 is best time. So worship Lord Shiva in the evening.
If it is not possible then you can do it because it is said that both Vishnu and shiva are one at many instances.

This month 20th is Tuesday and the Rahu Kalam Time is 03.00 pm to 04.30 pm. It’s better to reach the Open Ticket Counter two hours prior to Rahu Kalam Time in order to sit in the Rahu Kalam Pooja Batch Timing.
Guruji,
For Kethu Dosha Nivarana, i heared in early morning hours a jewel has been decorating to Goddess Gnanaprasunamba Devi before Sunshine. Is it true? For this darshan at what time we must present thaere. Let me know in detail as we are planing to come to Devasthanam.
Dear Mr. Ramkala Tej
Please call and ask the Temple authorities about this @ 08578 – 222240 to know about this Dharshan.
Hi,
My name- sireesha
D.O.B- 22-01-1990.,Mon 7:10 am
According to my d.o.b I am having kuja dosham.still not get married.please suggest me what to do
Dear Sireesha
Its not only because of Mars placed in 12th house caousing Kuja dosham (which gets reduced after the age of 28) but also the placement of Kethu in the 7th house is very inauspicious.
So perform Rahu Kethu pooja on a Shukla Paksha Sashti Thithi or any Tuesdays raahu kaal time is beneficial. First perform pooja to Lord Ganesh and then do the parihara pooja is correrc.
Daily worship Lord Ganesh and Subrahmanya and Goddess Durga. Sit and dedicate at least for half an hour for doing prayers to let shower his mercy.
Also Perform pooja to Shukra Bhagawan on every Friday as he is the Yoga Karaka for your Rasi.
Om Namah Shivaya
