Dakshinamoorthy is an aspect of Lord Shiva as a guru of all kinds of knowledge. This aspect of Shiva is his personification as supreme or supreme consciousness, understanding and knowledge. This form represents Shiva as a teacher of yoga, music and wisdom, and offers an exhibition on shastras.
He is worshipped as a god of wisdom, a complete and rewarding meditation. According to puranas, if a person does not have a guru, they can consider and worship Lord Dakshinamurthy as their teacher. Finally, they will be blessed with a self-realized human guru, if they are worthy of it.
Dakshinamurti literally means “one who looks south, daksina in Sanskrit. The south is the direction of death, hence the change. In each temple of Siva, the stone image of Dakshinamurthy is installed, to the south, on the southern circuit, around the sanctum sanctorum. Perhaps, of all the Hindu gods, he is the only one facing south.

ଶୁକାଦି ଵୃଦ୍ଧ ଶିଷ୍ୟାଢ୍ୟଂ ଵେଦ ଵେଦାନ୍ତଗୋଚରମ୍ ॥ ୩ ॥
ୟୁଵାନାଂ ମନ୍ମଥାରାତିଂ ଦକ୍ଷିଣାମୂର୍ତିମାଶ୍ରୟେ।

ଓଂ ଵିଦ୍ୟାରୂପୀ ମହାୟୋଗୀ ଶୁଦ୍ଧ ଜ୍ଞାନୀ ପିନାକଧୃତ୍ ।
ରତ୍ନାଲଂକୃତ ସର୍ଵାଙ୍ଗୀ ରତ୍ନମୌଳିର୍ଜଟାଧରଃ ॥ ୧ ॥
ଗଙ୍ଗାଧର୍ୟଚଲାଵାସୀ ମହାଜ୍ଞାନୀ ସମାଧିକୃତ୍।
ଅପ୍ରମେୟୋ ୟୋଗନିଧିର୍ତାରକୋ ଭକ୍ତଵତ୍ସଲଃ ॥ ୨ ॥
ବ୍ରହ୍ମରୂପୀ ଜଗଦ୍ଵ୍ୟାପୀ ଵିଷ୍ଣୁମୂର୍ତିଃ ପୁରାତନଃ ।
ଉକ୍ଷଵାହଶ୍ଚର୍ମଵାସାଃ ପୀତାମ୍ବର ଵିଭୂଷଣଃ ॥ ୩ ॥
ମୋକ୍ଷଦାୟୀ ମୋକ୍ଷ ନିଧିଶ୍ଚାନ୍ଧକାରୀ ଜଗତ୍ପତିଃ।
ଵିଦ୍ୟାଧାରୀ ଶୁକ୍ଲ ତନୁଃ ଵିଦ୍ୟାଦାୟୀ ଗଣାଧିପଃ ॥ ୪ ॥
ପ୍ରୌଢାପସ୍ମୃତି ସଂହର୍ତା ଶଶିମୌଳିର୍ମହାସ୍ଵନଃ ।
ସାମ ପ୍ରିୟୋଽଵ୍ୟୟଃ ସାଧୁଃ ସର୍ଵ ଵେଦୈରଲଙ୍କୃତଃ ॥ ୫ ॥
ହସ୍ତେ ଵହ୍ନିଧରଃ ଶ୍ରୀମାନ୍ ମୃଗଧାରୀ ଵଶଙ୍କରଃ ।
ୟଜ୍ଞନାଥ କ୍ରତୁଧ୍ଵଂସୀ ୟଜ୍ଞଭୋକ୍ତା ୟମାନ୍ତକଃ ॥ ୬ ॥
ଭକ୍ତାନୁଗ୍ରହ ମୂର୍ତିଶ୍ଚ ଭକ୍ତସେଵ୍ୟୋ ଵୃଷଧ୍ଵଜଃ ।

ଵ୍ୟୋମଗଙ୍ଗା ଜଲ ସ୍ଥାନଃ ଵିଶୁଦ୍ଧୋ ୟତିରୂର୍ଜିତଃ ।
ତତ୍ତ୍ଵମୂର୍ତିର୍ମହାୟୋଗୀ ମହାସାରସ୍ଵତପ୍ରଦଃ ॥ ୧୧।
ଵ୍ୟୋମମୂର୍ତିଶ୍ଚ ଭକ୍ତାନାଂ ଇଷ୍ଟକାମ ଫଲପ୍ରଦଃ ।

ବ୍ରହ୍ମଚାରୀ ଚ ସନ୍ୟାସୀ ଗୃହସ୍ଥାଶ୍ରମ କାରଣଃ ।
ଦାନ୍ତଃ ଶମଵତାଂ ଶ୍ରେଷ୍ଠୋ ସତ୍ୟରୂପୋ ଦୟାପରଃ ॥ ୧୫ ॥
ୟୋଗପଟ୍ଟାଭିରାମଶ୍ଚ ଵୀଣାଧାରୀ ଵିଚେତନଃ ।
ମତିପ୍ରଜ୍ଞା ସୁଧାଧାରୀ ମୁଦ୍ରାପୁସ୍ତକ ଧାରଣଃ ॥ ୧୬ ॥
ଵେତାଲାଦି ପିଶାଚୌଘ ରାକ୍ଷସୌଘ ଵିନାଶନଃ ।
