Karni Mata Temple, located at Desnoke in Rajasthan, is a 600 year old temple dedicated to Karni Mata, who was a famous mystic believed to be an incarnation of goddess Durga. Legend says that she predicted the victory of Rao Bika. In this temple, rats are considered holy, because it is believed that the souls of the devotees of Mata reside in these rats and hence they must be protected. The temple has huge silver gates and marble carvings donated by Maharaja Ganga Singh.
Thousands of people from different parts of the country visit the temple throughout the year to worship Goddess Karni Mata. Other than Rajasthan, people from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and many other areas highly respect and love Karni Mata. During the Navratri festival, thousands of pilgrims visit the temple on foot. Attracted by the divinity of Mata, the temple is becoming one of the holiest places in India.
