Maha Mrityunjay Mantra and Meaning


The Lord Shiva Mantra is also known as the Maha Mrityunjay Mantra. It is considered as extremely powerful mantra by Hindus. Chanting of Maha Mrityunjay Mantra is said to produce divine vibrations that heals, and thus the mantra is also known an the Moksha Mantra of Lord Shiva. It is also believed that the Maha Mrityunjay Mantra evokes the devotee towards Lord Shiva among human beings which also removes the fear of death.

Maha Mrityunjay Mantra Meaning:

Om. We pray The Three-Eyed Lord Shiva who is fragrant and who increasingly nourishes the devotees. Worshipping him may we be liberated from death for the sake of immortality just as the ripe cucumber easily separates itself from the binding stalk.


The mantra is a worship of Lord Shiva. Shankara is blessings and the giver. The other name of Lord Shiva is Trayambaka, which is a three eyed one where the third eye signifies the giver of knowledge and releases the cycle of death and rebirth.

Importance of Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra:

It is believed that proper chanting of Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra bestows wealth, health, peace, prosperity, long life and contentment. Not only this, but chanting of this mantra generates divine vibration that reduces all the negative and evil forces and creates positively and powerful protective shield. It is also said that it also have a strong healing power and can cure even those diseases that are declared incurable even by the doctors. The mantra, is believed that, can conquer even death and can connect human beings to their inner self.

ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिंम् पुष्टिवर्धनम् ।
उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान् मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात् ।।

ఓం ! త్రయంబకం యజామహే !
సుగంధిమ్ పుష్టి – వర్ధనం !
ఊర్వరుకమివా బంధనన్ !
మృత్యోర్ ముక్షియ మమృతత్ !

Om Tryambhakam Yajamahe
Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam |
Urvarukamiva Bandhanan
Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat ||

ஓம் த்ரியம்பகம் யஜா மஹே, சுகந்திம் புஷ்டி வர்தனம்;
உருவாருகமிவ பந்தனான், ம்ரித்யோர் மோக்ஷியே மா அம்ருதாத்.

Best time to chant:

Chanting the Mantra with sincerity, devotion and faith in Bramha Muhurata is very effective. But the japa can be done anytime in a very pure environment will be of great beneficial which led to the discovery of happiness in their own self.
