Panniyoor Varahamurthy Temple History:

Panniyur Temple is related to the Kerala formation myth. Sage Parasurama, who massacred the Kshatriyas, donated Kerala to Brahmins, to atone for his sin. He divided the land into 64 villages and decided on the administrative functions.

At this time, the earth began to rise. Sage Parasurama panicked, but took Sage Narada’s advice and sought refuge in Sri Maha Vishnu.

Sri Maha Vishnu asked Sage Parasurama to install an idol of Varaha Avatar that the Lord had taken earlier. “The presence of Trimurtis will be felt there,” said Maha Vishnu.

Following this, Sage Parasurama built the Panniyur Temple and consecrated Varahamoorthy. He also stipulated the rituals. The pond Matya Theertham was also dug nearby.
