The Iskcon Temple, locally known as Shri Shri Radha Damodar Mandir, was founded by the Iskcon Foundation in 1978. Its construction was preceded by the visit of Srila Prabhupada, founder of ISKCON Acharya in 1970. As a first step, Temple area was limited to about 900 square feet, but over time, the temple complex was expanded to 13,600 square feet. Located a bit far from the city center and located near the banks of the Tapi River, the temple away from the hustle and bustle of urban life.
The simple but architecturally beautiful temple design, beautiful idols of Lord Krishna and Lord Rama, the Aarti, Bhajan and calm and clean environment have the power to captivate and recharge a person mentally and spiritually. The temple complex also houses a guest house and shops to offer books and souvenirs.
One of the largest temples in Surat, Shri Shri Radha Damodar Mandir is very popular with the faithful. Festivals and holidays are days when a large number of people come to have the god’s darshan and indulge in special devotional songs and temple music.
