Udayapatti Skandashramam Temple or Udayapatti Murugan Temple is a famous temple in Udayapatti, Salem, Tamil Nadu State. Lord Muruga is the main deity in this temple. It is the only temple where Mother Parasakthi and her son Muruga are facing each other. Based on astrological science, Navagrahas the nine planets are installed around Lord Muruga with their respective wives. The temple is built under strict Agama rules with a 16ft tall Thattatreya Bhagwaran – Guru and a Swarna Akarshana Bhairava Murthy. Lord Sankatahara Bhairava is very famous in this temple. The deities belonging to the four Vedas are also installed here.
Sri Panchamukha Anjaneya (Anjaneya with five faces) and Panchamukha Ganapathi are face to face in the temple. 6 feet tall Lord Danwantri blesses the devotees with a disease-free life. The Banalinga-Bhuvaneswarar and Bhuvaneswari brought from Narmada River for Pradosha puja are in Lord Muruga’s shrine. Lord Veda Vinayaka and Acharya Sankara add more grace to the temple.
People pray here generally for wedding and child boon and for the prosperous aspects of Guru Bhagwan. Lord Danwantri ensures healthy life and Lord Swarnakarshana Bhairava all prosperity. Lord Sankatara Ganapathi removes worries of devotees while Sri Anjaneya blesses the devotee with physical prowess, Bhakti, courage, land, education and wisdom.
In the Maha Mandapam, one can see Shri Ashta Dasapuja Mahalakshmi Durga Parameswari, who is also known as Skandamatha and opposite to Durga, there stands the grand, attractive, and smiling statue by name Gnanaskandan (Bala Dandayudha Pani). Both are in standing posture.
In the outer premises of the northern side of Maha Mandapam, one can see the astonishing statues of 16′ Shri Panchmuga Anjaneyar and Shri Panchamuga Vinayagar. They reveal the greatness and spiritual attitude of Om Shri Santhananada Swamigal. Skanthasramam is in the form of Linga. There are nine important points in the Linga in the form of the temple, they donate:

Besides these nine points on the top of the Linga form, it is predicted as the adobe of Ganga, in between the 3rd and 5th point there is Gomuki. On the right and left sides of Ganga, there are moon and sun respectively. In the eastern side of the temple, there runs Kannimar Odai (stream). As it flows towards the north, it is also known as Utharavahini. By the side of the stream, there is the goddess Kannimar Amman.

Skandashramam Temple History:
Udayapatti Skandashramam Temple was established in 1965 by His Holiness Sri Shantananda Swamigal. Lord Muruga appeared in his dream and ordered him to install him in a particular place here. His Holiness searched for the location indicated by Lord Muruga and finally found that location. He started the temple with simple structures, which today have grown in size and fame with all architectural skills and carvings. The temple is located in a mountainous environment that stands out for its natural beauty.
