About Vamana Avatar And Temples In India

Vamana Avatar is the Fifth Avatar of Sri Maha Vishnu. Vamana Avatar is after Narasimha Vamana and before Parashurama Avatar.

In VAMANA Avatar, Lord Maha Vishnu incarnates as a dwarf priest in this world. BALI, Prahlada’s grandson was a very brave and powerful asura. For his penance and power, he conquered the whole world. Indra and other gods fearing that he and all the other Asuras would conquer the three worlds, came to the aid of Lord Maha Vishnu. Lord Maha Vishnu was born as a dwarf Vamana in the house of a Brahmin (priest). He went to Bali when he grew up and he asked alms. Bali was happy to offer him everything he asked for, although his priest warned him that it was Lord Vishnu.

Then Vamana asked how much earth could fall under her feet. Bali agreed with grace. Lord Vishnu then grew up and covered the earth and the sky in two strides. And because of lack of space, he himself laid his third leg on Bali and crashed Bali into hell or the Patala loka (underground world), thus helping the gods to come out.
