Palakkad Kottayam Sree Anjaneya swami Temple or Fort Hanuman Temple is one of the oldest and best-known temples in the Palakkad district of Kerala. Palakkad Hanuman Swamy Fort has been worshipped by devotees since the historical period. Devotees visit the temple for the fulfillment of their anticipated needs, the relief of pain, prosperity and the upliftment of their families. Important temple offerings are Vadamala, Vettilamala and Neyvilakku (Ghee Lamp)
Festivals are part of our culture and are celebrated with pomp and spectacle. The important temple festivals are Sree Rama Navami, Ramayana Masam and Navarathri Pooja. Many cultural programs like music, dance, Tholpavakoothu, Chakuarkoothu, Ottamthullal, Bhakti prabhashanam, etc. are organized in association with these festivals.
The Ramayana Masam is observed as a holy month by the Keralites which falls in the month of Karkidaka (July-August). Ramayana parayanam occurred in details of temple premises and explains the story of Ramayana, the epic. Thousands of devotees of Sri Hanuman Swamy receive Kanji (rice porridge) and Puzhukku (vegetable dish) at the temple’s office complex called Kadhaleevanam, located on West Fort Road near Rappadi’s open-air auditorium.
Thursday and Saturday are auspicious for Sri Anjaneya. A Prasada oottu (Annadanam) is served to hundreds of devotees at Kadhaleevanam from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. every Thursday and Saturday.
Sri Anjaneya Seva Samithi, an organization registered under the Companies Act of Kerala, looks after the day-to-day activities of the temple. He has his office in Kadhaleevanam. It has an Executive Committee of 9 members composed of a President and a Secretary.
Sri Anjaneya Seva Samithi focuses on social service activities specifically in and around Palakkad district. It celebrates the marriages of girls belonging to economically backward families. The Samithi pays for sadya wedding expenses of up to 500 people, auditorium expenses…etc.
Projects like Sanjeevani Chikilsa Sahaya Nidhi take care of medical expenses for financially uninformed people, distribute study materials for students who need support, etc. Another notable project taken up by Samithi is the Oru Pidi Ari project. The project aims to provide free rice to the the needy.
The Samithi supports many future temples in Palakkad by distributing Gingelly oil and other pooja materials until the temples are ready to cover their expenses with their own income.
