Hampi Ugra Narasimha Swamy Temple Timing, History, Location

The Ugra Lakshmi Narasimha statue is one of the most imposing sculptures found in the ruined town of Hampi, Karnataka. The sculpture specializes in being the largest monolithic statue in Hampi. The statue is situated on the south side of the Hemakuta group of temples which is located on Hemakuta Hill.

This huge stone structure is considered one of the most important monuments in Hampi. It is an important tourist attraction and is visited by a large number of people throughout the year. Hampi Ugra Narasimha Swamy Temple History:

It is a monolithic statue and was built during the rule of Vijayanagar king Krishna Devaraya. This idol was installed by sage Krishna Bhatta in 1528 AD. Narasimha is depicted sitting in a yogic posture with his legs crossed, in the spiral of a magnanimous serpent with seven heads called Sesha. The heads are arched forming a cap on the head of Narsimha. The idol is said to have the statue of Lakshmi on the left Lap of narasimha, but now it is missing. The idol found is kept in Kamalapuram Archaeological museum. Four arms of this idol are broken. The idol sits in an Adisesha with seven hoods. This statue is 6.7 meters in high. This statue is seated on the reels of the Seven hooded Shesha with Makara Torana in padmasana with Yogapattika.
