ISKCON FOOD RELIEF FOUNDATION, GUNTUR
Proposal to implement Mid-Day meal program in all Urban and Rural Government and Municipal schools of Guntur Dt.
Guntur is a very important and most developed urban city in Andhra Pradesh, yet in this very city, thousands of school children go hungry every day. Can one afford to remain indifferent to their plight? Or is there something one can do, that can change their lives for the better?
ISKCON Food Relief Program (Food for Life) started by His Divine Grace A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada(Founder Acharya of ISKCON) is dedicated to uplift the underprivileged children, is able to touch these children and bring smiles back on their faces through the mid-day meal program.
Our founder acharya, “Every individual is responsible for the welfare of society as well as future generations.” Drawing inspiration from is teachings ISKCON has been associated with many social and spiritual causes since its inception. The movement has always been proactive and takes initiative in extending help during natural disasters like tsunami, earthquakes and floods. Social concerns like healthcare, childcare, education etc.
India being a land of vast social an cultural diversity is faced with problems like economic disparity, lack of education, social injustice, hunger, disease etc….as a spiritual organization all these problems cannot be addressed alone on a large scale, but what ISKCON can certainly do is initiate projects which address basic issues like “hunger”.
It is therefore ISKCON Food Relief Foundation has taken up the responsibility of feeding children across the country.
ISKCON Food Relief (Food For Life) is a non-profit Organization, that aims to alleviate two of the most pressing problems faced by children in India today-hunger and lack of education.
IFRF is providing unlimited, nutritious mid-day meals to thousands of underprivileged children in schools across India. The meal acts as an incentive to attract children to school, and also endures that they stay in school and continue their education.
We have stated this program with 1500 children in five schools in the year 2000 in Bangalore, and today we are able to extend this facility to more than a million disadvantaged children at 15 location across the country include Tirupati, Nellore , Rajahmandry, Kadapa, Vizag, Anantapur, Medak within Andhra Pradesh which demonstrates the success of the program.
It is hoped that this program will extend the reach to as many children as possible as efforts are doubled to put an end to harsh realities, like hunger, that plague society.
