Krishna consciousness is more than just another sectarian faith. It is a technical science of spiritual values fully described in the ancient literature of India. The goal of the Krishna consciousness movement is to inform the whole world about the universal principles of understanding about God so that all can reap the sublime benefits of spiritual understanding, peace, and unity.
The Vedas recommend that in the present age the most effective means of attaining self-realization is to always hear about the most gracious Supreme Lord, who is known by many names, as well as to glorify and remember Him. One of these names is “Krishna,” which means “one who is all-attractive”; another is “Rama,” which means “the reservoir of all pleasure” and “Hare” which indicates the inconceivable energy of the Lord.
Following this Vedic recommendation, ISKCON members are always seen singing Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare / Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. This sublime song places the practitioner in direct contact with the Supreme Lord through the sound vibration of His holy names and gradually awakens his original relationship with God.
The priority mission of ISKCON is therefore to encourage all members of human society to devote at least part of their time and energy to this process of hearing about God and glorifying Him. In this way, they will come to understand that all living beings are spiritual souls, eternally related to the Supreme Lord in service and love.
