Lord Shiva is worshiped by the Shaivaites in India as a destroyer of ignorance spread throughout the universe. As one of the three main gods of the Hindu pantheon, there are temples dedicated to his worship in India. The most important are the temples of Jyotirlinga. In Shaivism, Shiva is the god of all and is described as worshiped by all, including Devas like Lord Brahma, Sri Vishnu and Indra, Asuras like Banasura and Ravana, humans like Adi Shankaracharya and Nayanars, and creatures as diverse as Jatayu, an Eagle, and Vali, an Ape.
