Panchayudha Stotram Lyrics and Meaning | Sri Maha Vishnu Slokam

Panchayudha Stotram was translated by P.R.Ramachander and this is a prayer which addresses the five weapons of Sri Maha Vishnu.

The 5 Holy weapons are Sudarshana, Pancha Janya, Gomodhakee, Sword and bow. They are considered as great sages in the service of Lord Vishnu.

The Sudarshana, the sacred wheel, was believed o be made by Viswakarma from the dust of Lord Sun sawed, to reduce its harshness. This became necessary because Viswakarma’s daughter was married to Sri maha Vishnu.

There was an Asura called Panchaja who was hiding in a conch shell. This asura kidnapped the son of Lord Krishna’s teacher. Lord Krishna waged a war against Panchaja and killed him. He kept the shell for use. Another story is that Panchajanya was one of the products that stirred the milky ocean.

His mace was made out of the bone of one Rakshasa called Gadha who was the son of sage Kashyapa by Viswakarma and presented to Lord Vishnu.

His bow Sarnga was supposed to be made by God Brahma and presented to Lord Vishnu.
