Ratnagiri Ganapatipule Temple Timings, History

Ganpatipule Temple is located in Ganpatipule, Ratnagiri District of the Kokan coast of Maharashtra. Ganpatipule Temple is 323 km from Mumbai, 156 km from Kolhapur and 215 from Satara. Ganpatipule is the land of Swayambhoo (a self-embodied idol) of Lord Ganesha and 400 years old Temple. Its origin can be imagined from its references in ancient literature like Mudgal-puran, etc., where it was called “Paschim Dwar-Devata” or “Paschim Dwarpalak” (Western sentinel god).

Ratnagiri Ganapatipule Temple History:

There are several stories about the Ganpatipule temple and the deity of Kokan.
During the reign of the Moguls (about 1600 years earlier), there was a “kevada” (flowering tree). Jungle at the foot of the hill where the temple of ‘Swayambhu’ Ganapati stands today. Here lived a Brahmin named Balbhatji Bhide.

Bhide encountered a major personal problem. Bhide being a determined person. that he was, he decided to leave food and water until he was freed from his problem. He stayed at Kevada-Jungal to do penance and worship his tutelary deity Mangal Murti (Lord Ganesh).

During this period, Bhide has a vision of Lord Ganesh who said: “I have come to Aagargule (Ganesh Gule) to fulfill the wishes of my devotees. The hill is my ‘nirakar’ of (Void of) You worship and propitiate here, and he will be relieved of all your difficulties. ”

During the same period, one of the cows of Bhide was not giving milk, for which reason, the cowherd kept a close watch on her. He was astonished to see that the milk was flowing from the cow’s udder on the place where the idol of God is placed at present. The cowherd narrated the incident to Bhide. on Cleaning up the entire area Bhide found the idol of Ganesh which he had seen in his vision He built a shrine here and started performing rituals.

Ganpatipule derived its name from “Ganapati” or the Lord of “Ganas” (army) and ‘Pule’ which means sand dune. In those days, this village was sparsely populated. Most people stayed around the northern part of the village since the western part of the village was a slope The tutelar deity Lord Mangalmurty preferred to be at a small village adjacent to the western coast of India along the Arabain sea.
