1998లో విజయ్ మాల్యా శబరిమల అయ్యప్ప ఆలయంలో బంగారు పైకప్పు వేశారు.31 కిలోల బంగారాన్ని 1900 కిలోల రాగితో కలిపి ఈ బంగారు పైకప్పును తయారు చేశారు.
24 ఏళ్ల తర్వాత బంగారు పైకప్పు లీక్ అయి శ్రీ కోవిల్లోని శ్రీ అయ్యప్ప స్వామి వారి ప్రధానాలయం లో వర్షపు నీరు కారుతున్న సందర్భంగా అయ్యప్ప స్వామివారి అనుమతి తీసుకుని ఈరోజు పనులు ప్రారంభిస్తున్నారు.
